Same here but I need to use the real YIM client for voice chat since Gaim doesn't have that.

I've now changed to Trillian because I can use AIM and stuff as well.

Trillian is very unstable for me. It crashes more than you'd imagine for me.

I mean, I'm an AOL user. I have AIM. I'd like to change my screen name without creating a whole new account with AOL. Can I do this with GAIM? Does it screw up your computer like AIM does? Hope that makes more sense....

The AIM protocol does not allow the changing of names (or as far as I am aware it does not) and Gaim does not help with this.

But, does have some benifits.  It does not screw up your computer, supports tabbed windows, and new features are always being added.  You should give it a look here.
