I just downloaded and installed it. Is it safe? I mainly downloaded it so I can play. avi files such as the episodes of The ffice I downloaded.

If you just got it for the codec try just downloading the codec.

im already able to play .avi files in the player. The player is great anyways.

I don't fiddle with DivX like i used to back in the day...i think i had DivX Player 3....lol

Eww, don't use the actual divx codec for decoding.  Using Xvid instead gives you good karma...  Anyway, yea, VLC and Winamp make better video players than Divx Player.

I do alot of video capping and encoding and don't really see any difference in quality on DivX than XviD.

Its not so much the quality as that one is free open source software and the other isn't.

Yeah, XviD is free and open source but DivX 6 isn't.
