Edits In Episodes
« on: April 21, 2007, 07:22:18 pm »
Do you know any episodes that have even the slightest edits/changes from the first airing of the episode to now? Here are the ones that I know:
*In Just One Bite the whole gasoline sceen was taken out.
*In Procrastination the real-life scene of the car crash was taken out.
*At the very end of The Great Snail Race, Sandy and Squidward laughing was taken out.
*In One Krab's Trash, when Spongebob said "You'll never guess what I found in my pants last night." was changed to "You'll never guess what I found in my sock last night."
*In The Frycook Games, Spongebob and Patrick were originally holding hands at the end, but it was changed to them having their hands on their backs.

Any other ones that you know of?

Dumb people complained
*In Procrastination the real-life scene of the car crash was taken out.
^^
*At the very end of The Great Snail Race, Sandy and Squidward laughing was taken out.
I am clueless on this one
*In One Krab's Trash, when Spongebob said "You'll never guess what I found in my pants last night." was changed to "You'll never guess what I found in my sock last night."
Do you REALISE how saying "Guess what I found in my pants!" sounds...?
*In The Frycook Games, Spongebob and Patrick were originally holding hands at the end, but it was changed to them having their hands on their backs.
Uh hu. Two guys in their under wear holding hands. SUPER-HETERO.

*Something Smells was different on DVD. Instead of saying "Hi, building!", SpongeBob says "I don't get it." and Patrick says "I don't either."
*Patty Hype: The first customer's patty was blue. Now, it's purple.
*Survival of the Idiots: Sandy's bed used to hang from the ceiling. And there was more saliva.

Thanks, S 2 da B. I don't know when there was "more salive", though. Also, I wonder why they edited out the Sandy's bed hanging from the ceiling part.

I emailed Jay Lender and asked him about this same situation about changing episodes slightly.

Quote
Nickelodeon and the other major cartoon studios have a policy about
showing dangerous "repeatable" behavior.  Though a few kids may have
access to robotic arms and buckets of kerosene (not grease), the fire
gag in Just One Bite went through every possible Nickelodeon approval
and it was determined that it did NOT meet the standard for
repeatable behavior, .  It was checked, re-checked, approved,
animated and aired intact multiple times after its October 2001
premiere.

So why is it gone now?

Believe it or not, the fire scene from Just One Bite, and others like
it, were erased from history... because of the 9/11 terrorist
attacks!  One of the geniuses at Nickelodeon's Standards and
Practices Department (and they're ALL geniuses)--or perhaps someone
from higher up-- decided that after being subjected to the disaster
at the World Trade Center, the delicate children of America should be
protected from all images of fire and even, in some cases, references
to firemen.  Many scenes like mine were cut from the Nickelodeon
library, often resulting in continuity issues, and sometimes even
creating story problems which make the episodes unwatchable.  One
entire series, Constant Payne, Nickelodeon's first action cartoon,
was cancelled before a single episode ever aired.

As for why the "I have no soul" flames have reappeared on DVD...
perhaps it is because those were metaphorical flames, not actual
ones, and therefore, less likely to harm the imaginary talking
cartoon octopus burglar.  If you would like those flames removed
again, I'm sure it will only take one angry letter to Nickelodeon.
However, if you would like the other scenes restored, it will take
angry letters from you and several million of your friends, plus a
boycott and personal threats against the lives of Nickelodeon
executives.  A controlling share of Viacom stock would also be
helpful.   :-)

But do you know why the Survival Of The Idiots ones were edited?

After 9/11, many things had to be changed. It's just what Nick wanted/needed to do =\

I also noticed in Procrastination they took out the scene where SpongeBob does calistetics (Sorry if I spelled that wrong, I'm too lazy to look it up right now.)
Why they took it out I have no idea, unless it was part of the live action scene Daniel mentioned earlier.
