I know people have been trying to figure this out forever, but how old is he? In the movie, he has 374 consecutive employee-of-the-month awards for working at the Krusty Krab, which would mean he has worked there for at least 31 years and 2 months. Because of labor laws, this puts his minimum age around 52 years, 2 months. However, Patrick is said to be only 23 years old. I'm confused.

one random source *coughwikipediacough* said that the movie took place like 32 years or so after the series...I don't believe it but this could explain things.

I remember a much earlier thread talking about how Spongebob exhibits both the qualities of children and adults.  I mean, he sure acts like a kid, but then again he lives on his own and holds down his own job.  I think that's what the SB producers are purposely doing: putting Spongebob in sort of this "netherworld" in between childhood and adulthood.

How do we know Patrick is 23? (Just wondering.) We know from "The Bully" that he went to junior college, so that should suggest something--and it's not too likely that he skipped any grades, if you know what I mean!

You can also see from the episode "Sleepy Time" that Mr. Krabs was born in the 1940s (can't remember the exact year.)  So you could say he's meant to be a character in his late 50s/early 60s.

Continuity doesn't really...exist in SpongeBob,so you aren't going to get just one correct answer.

but in some episodes you see him as a kid with a lollipop, and then currently and then old, so perhaps suggesting he is in his 20's in personality, though his license ways he is 19. It doesn't seem right that he goes to get a job at 13 and doesn't go to school, at all. There seems to be no high school or college at all.
