If you dont want to worry about messing up partitions, you could always use Daemon-Tools.

When i get the beta by mail, im installing it on my second drive on an empty partition and will physicaly unplug my primary drive while it installs. i dont want to have to completely reinstall windows when i get the final retail version. ( you cant upgrade from teh beta version to the full version, and that means reinstalling *all* your programs)

Upgrade limitations
You may not be able to upgrade your installation of Windows Vista Beta 2 (or RC1) to the final, commercially available edition of Windows Vista. To upgrade you will need to acquire the final edition of Windows Vista and you may have to do a clean installation.

Your basicaly taking a big risk in upgrading an existing XP install, especialy if you have a lot of programs installed.

Oh, and i installed the beta today. Sadly my video card keeps craping out with a Code 43 error. no Aero, no 3D, etc. It still looks nice though, and i can get the older XP drivers to load up, i havent tried any DX9 games with the XP drivers yet, but perhaps soon.

As RandomDude16 said, Windows Vista is pretty fast. I used 32bit, it goes a little faster that XP. I had to delete it to make space for stuff.

It's definitely going to be replacing XP on my box when it comes out and I havn't got around to trying the 32-bit one yet.

Although I had 1.5GB of RAM, maybe that did the speed trick.
