Title: Football Season
Post by: foulpattie on August 19, 2004, 07:30:03 pm
Well football season has sorta started. Preseason anyway. I'm pumped for this year. I'm still trying to pick the super bowl winner. I think the chiefs may win but i'm not sure about that yet. Maybe Seattle...

You know it's Minnesota coming out of the NFC.

I'll take the Ravens to win the AFC.

OT: C'mon Twins! Complete the sweep and beat the Yanks!!

Ya know this thread really needed to be made.

I know alot of those ESPN dudes think that New England is gonna repeat but I don't think they can. It just doesn't happen nowadays. and I don't care how many players they have returining it won't happen.

Also everyone is picking the eagles. they are my hometown team but they won't win. The eagles always dissapoint.

I'm thinking the Eagles will once again lose in the NFC Championship and become the new Buffalo Bills.

Sorry, dude.  I feel your pain.  I've been rooting for the Eagles to win the NFC Champ. game for the past 3 years............. perhaps I'm cursing them?

My team's cursed as well.  98 Championship Game, 41-0 2000 Championship game, last year's Cardinals debacle, 4 Super losses, need I say any more?

This year we break the curse.

I got the Lions going 10-6 winning the NFC North. And we'll see in the playoffs from there.

Post by: Kenny Blankenship on August 20, 2004, 07:55:21 pm
Bleagh.... Vikings weren't all that great tonight.  The Falcons backup QB just SHREDDED our 2nd string secondary.  I can't remember Schaub throwing an incompletion.  The 2nd string offense wasn't all that effective either, and our special teams just plain stunk.

But it's only preseason, and a lot of the guys who sucked tonight won't even be around for the season opener.  And hey, the starters did play very well, giving the Vikes a 17-0 lead for the backups to blow.

Post by: foulpattie on August 21, 2004, 11:55:01 am
Well Eagles won. They looked good in spots. Lots of big plays. But we lost one of our running backs for the season. Too many injuries could kill us.

I don't really care for football but I'm from the bay area and all the boys argue about who's better. The Raiders or The 49ers. It's pointless and stupid so my favorite football team is New York Giants even though I don't really like football.

So Kenny Blankenship, the "NFC North Champions" did really good last night.

Lions are losing by a touchdown but it is not even half yet.
Title: Football Season
Post by: Kenny Blankenship on August 21, 2004, 02:55:20 pm
One, it's still the preseason......... let us not forget that.

Two, our starters played very well, it was our 2nd and 3rd string that sucked.

And third, get it right.  It's not "NFC North Champions", it's "Super Bowl XXIX Champions".

Willis McGahee wants out of Buffalo? (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1863872)

Ungrateful ::Dolphin Noise::.  After the Bills have the decency to draft him in the 1st round, even though there was no guarantee he would even be half the RB was at Miami, he wants a trade if he ain't starting.

If I were a Bills fan, I'd be seriously ticked off............. if it turns out to be true.

Oh, COME ON.  The Bills drafted him when 20 other teams wouldn't, when they already had a good RB, when it wasn't even a guarantee he would play a down ever again.  The LEAST he could do is show a little gratitude and be thankful that the Bills believed in him, when no one else did.

So???  The Bills liked McGahee so much, they used their 1st  round pick on him, giving him more money than he would've gotten if he was drafted in the 2nd.

The Bills could've used their pick on someone less risky, as 20 other teams before them did, but the Bills drafted him anyway.  The Bills were patient, letting McGahee heal for a year, and they are giving him every  opportunity to win the starting job.  How you think it's OK for McGahee to ask for a trade after what the Bills have done for him is beyond me.

Ah, yes.  College football.  Fairly excited for the new season as the eventual 2004 National Champions (I wish) Minnesota Golden Gophers are fielding a dang good team this year.  They've got one of the best backfields in the nation, with Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney at RB.  And if Cupito turns out to be a serviceable QB, we might make a stab at the Big 10 championship.

As for the USC/VA Tech game on Saturday, should be good.... much more interesting than any preseason game.  Hopefully Mike Williams will get to play.

I'll take the easy pick, and that is USC.

Edit: Well, since I can't double post, I'll add this bit of info to my post..... although I think this topic is dead.

Mike Williams not allowed to return to USC. (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1868537)

Vikings up 16-0 over 49ers at half, but the scary thing is is that it could easily be 31-0.  We had a few mishaps inside the red zone, and Elling missed a FG and a XP (he's a goner).

But other than that, we're looking very sharp.  Culpepper is playing great, as always, and Bennett has had some nice gains.  And Nate Burleson has solidified his #2 WR position, as he is playing very well.  And on the other side, Kevin Williams is going to be a FORCE to be reckoned with.  He could easily make the Pro Bowl this year.

Total yards:
49ers: 61
Vikings: 326 (not bad)

Edit Number Three (because no one else will respond to this topic): CUT AARON ELLING NOW!!!!

Edit Number Four (someone post in this topic so it doesn't become the Kenny Blankenship show):  Dangit.  16-10.  Our backups suck.

USC ain't gonna be #1 for long if they keep playing like they did the 1st half.

You think they miss Mike Williams or what?

I'm watching this game right now and i've come to 1 conclusion. USC has horrible run deffense.

Even if USC comes back to win this game, I think they're done.  Va. Tech has exposed USC as a team that can be beaten, and not the dominating USC of last year.

Edit: Well, USC scores and takes the 14-10 lead.

That one offensive pass interference call killed all the momentum Va Tech had.

Although a nice stop by the Hokie D.

Edit: Ouch! Bad incompletion by Randall.  Now 14-13.

Okay, just to clear some things up, USC sucks.  They played horribly tonight.  And you can expect more of that.

The only reason why they won was becuase of a horrible call by the refs.  Virginia Tech would have easily won this game by a few touchdowns, and proven to everyone how truly weak USC is.  But instead, thanks to the stupid refs, everyone thinks they're all great.  I resent that.  This not only alters these two teams, but the whole complexion of the season.

Sorry, but this just sucks.

The other USC is okay, I guess...

yeah the gamecocks are not a threat so their only enemy is clemson because theres no other big colleges in our state. clemsons actually ranked this year though. woah watch out for our big bad state. haha yeah right...

Crap, Bennett's out for the opener (http://vikings.theinsiders.com/2/288511.html), and possibly more.  That stinks.

And the Giants have selected their starting QB (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1870555) for the season opener against the Eagles, and Mr. Warner gets the nod over Eli.
