Season 4 is my second favorite season. I never understood all the hate. I heard people bash Season 4 for forcusing on Mr. Krabs too much and for SpongeBob slight voice change, but I doubt those are the real reasons. I also heard people critisize it for Squidward getting mad over nothing, but he really doesn't. Anyone would get mad if two of your neighbors bothered you all day!
-
Amen, brother PatSponge. What's all the fuss about voice change anyway? The only time I really noticed it was in Fear of A Krabby Patty.
And Dunces and Dragons is best double-length ep ever. Period.

I hate it because it's getting too much like FOP....everyone speaking too fast...everything going too fast...not many pauses in dialogue makes it not only less entertaining but much harder to follow.
I didn't notice the voice change...I just noticed at how much it has fallen under Nickelodeon's control....getting lame....LONG LIVE SEASON 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally, Sarah. Season 4 just lost the charm. And Dunces and Dragons is the worst episode ever. Period.

Everything going fast? What do you mean? Stuff don't go on too fast. How picky can you be?
-
I'll never be sold on season 4. Sure, it had greats like Krusty Towers, Wishing you well, New Leaf and Dunces and Dragons, yet it also managed to have pitiful episodes like Karate Island and All that glitters.
-
I dislike season 4, too. I'd rather watch season 1 episodes than 4, because SpongeBob has been changing after the movie came out. And I did notice the voice change. If you picture sb saying something like the krusty krab pizza song and then something from season 4 you'll notice it, too. I have other reasons for hating it, though.
-
I hate it because it's not the series anymore. Episodes like Best Day Ever, Krusty Towers, and All That Glitters made me want to go kill myself, (not really,) because after watching the episode Band Geeks, these episodes seemed so dumb, and started reflecting Nick too much, instead of the individuality the writers had that made the show what it was in the first place. I barely noticed the voice change, it's just that the show lost 90% of its humor.
-
I kind of agree about Best Day Ever and All That Glitters. They weren't that good, but how can you say that about Krusty Towers? That's one of the best episodes ever!
Well, shows do evolve overtime. I really don't care though. I guess some people just don't like change.
-
I dont think its 'bad' persay, but it definetly could use improvements. It's like in some episodes, the writers didn't even think about the plot for more than 15 seconds.
Season 5 is still good :P
-
iF YOU'll watch an old episode, any random one, say, Pizza delivery for example, you will notice it is slower. The show takes place at a much much slower pace. It is the same way with commercials of now adays. All that computer animated crap jumping at at ya 1000000 things happening in 5 seconds but watch a commerical from the 80s or even 5-10 years ago and see how slow the difference. In the new familyguys, stuff happens fast, too. Miss 1 minute of the show you miss a hundred things. Although season 4 still is great though, and I surmise they will keep getting better.
-
well, season 4 has changes for the older spongebob fans. his voice, the plots, characters.... ect. I like it just fine.
but some people don't like the change and like the classics.
-
The thing is that if it DIDN'T change, people would complain about lack of originality. That's I mean by that people can't appreciate anything.
-
(EDIT) Monkey-bugs. Let me try that again.

To me, Skill Crane and the like is no faster than Hall Monitor, or I Had an Accident, say. I mean, in Hall Monitor, things start going wrong, like, 3 minutes down the line.
-
1. To fast
2. Lost about 94% of the humor
3. Karate Island (Basically ruined the whole season :-X)
-
Here are my detailed reasons for hating the fourth season:
1) The season 4 humer is more for little kids, the ones young enough to be watching nick jr, and I'm not just saying that. I've seen my dad (age 50) laughing at LOTS of moments on sb in seaons 1-3. Same goes for my punkish teenaged sister, who says she hates sb beleive it or not. But as for season 4, all the humer is the kinda thing that only young children laughing at. The new writers aren't showing the kind of comedy that children, teens, AND adults can find funny in the new season.
2) That new voice gets on my nerves. I'm sure that goes for lots of other sb fans. I dunno who's idea it was to make sb's voice sound 10 years younger, but if they thought it makes spongebob cute then they're wrong.
3) The plots aren't like the previous ones. When I'm watching tv and an episode from the third or second season comes on, I'm always like "OMG This is my favorite episode! Oh wait. They all are!" But not with fourth season ones. In fact when I ws telling my dad about how the new writers aren't the best I've seen, he agreed that the storyline seemed alot different in the newer episodes. This suprised me because my dad's not really into sb (though he knows i adore it), and for somebody not really involved in it to notice that should mean something.
-
Well the episodes just aren't funny.
-
It is actually a pretty good season, but in some episodes he is just...
super-duper-extra-extravegently-ultra-obsessed with money...
Look at the first season, he's not that obsessed with it as he is now!
-
What are you guys talking about? I'm 19 and I find a lot of funny moments in Season 4. Infact, I think it's funnier than the other seasons.
-
Season 4 is the worst one ever.
Spongebob is ALOT less mature. He acts like he is some 10 year old.
Patrick isn't as funny. His smartness/dumbness isn't as funny as it used to be.
Too much gross out humour.
-
About it being too IMATURE...
SPONGEBOB IS SUPPOSTED TO BE FOR LITTLE KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
-
Yea. And adults used to enjoy it also. Not anymore. It got rid of those things that entertain the parents. It became like everything else.
-
It's not funny. At. All. It also has Dunces and Dragons and Karate Island, thus deserving eternal damnation.
-
It also has Dunces and Dragons...thus deserving eternal damnation.
How dare you? I mean how dare you discriminate a glorious episode and try to embarass me in front of my peers?
I was telling the truth.
That's a discrimination on top of a discrimination.
What are you guys talking about? I'm 19 and I find a lot of funny moments in Season 4. In fact, I think it's funnier than the other seasons.
Really? I figured you were younger. But still, AMEN. I watched episodes like Employee of the Month and New Student Starfish and my laugh box didn't break a sweat. But during Funny Pants I laughed so hard, I thought I had a rash.
-
Some episode just aren't funny at all.. But i hope season 6 will be better..
-

I'm sorry, but I most disagree with you there. SpongeBob us always equally immature and Patrick is always funny, whether it's from Season 1-3 or Season 4.
If little things like these bother you guys, I don't even know why you consider yourselves SpongeBob fans.
-
It's not funny. At. All. It also has Dunces and Dragons and Karate Island, thus deserving eternal damnation.
Karate Island is the only one that deserves that kind of treatment. Dunces & Dragons was pretty good. Not great but better than Karate Island.
-
Well, okay Karate Island and Dunces and Dragons are some of the worst SpongeBob episodes ever, but other than those episodes, Season 4 is great for the most part.
-
Why?
I think because most of the episodes are rubbish?
E.G. chimps ahoy, the whole story is just trash. There are SOME episodes which were good, like Have you seen this Snail? Or Best day ever. But the most were just rubbish.
-
I haven't found anything wrong with season 4
-
I think Season 4 is th best season ever, Season 2 rocked also. I don't get it, why does everyone hate it? I myself find much more humour in it and it has better storylines as well.
-

I'm glad to see someone else agrees with me.
-
ahem i think you people should be glad that there was a season four. they were about to stop making episodes but hey! they didnt so you people who hate season 4 should be greatful i say.
-
We would be better with them ending it. =(
-
yeah. but season 5 is coming soon hopefully thatll be great

I agree. Season 4 rocks. BTW my favorite season order is:
Season 3
Season 4
Season 2
Season 1
-
I have to agree with everyone else. The new episodes seem to move way too fast, with most of the humor being sort of lame and childish. The old Spongebob episodes moved at a good pace, with plenty of time to fit more genuine humor into the show. Spongebob seemed more mature and less dainty in previous seasons, too.
-
Spongebob's voice is too high, other than that the season is fine.
-
Am I the only one who doesn't notice SpongeBob's voice change?
-
There are alot of problems with Season 4. And all of these problems are due to the writing staff, who did a horrible job of formating the show. First of all, as people said before, they move way too fast, with miminal humor, most of the episode is just fluff. The previous seasons had genuine humor along with a good plot. The episodes now move way to fast, and its over before it started.
The minimal humor they have isn't paletable to all audiences, it targets only the younger crowd, while former seasons were entertaining for people of all ages. For example, Patrick was a great character, but now, his dialouge is weak, and the rare moments he has aren't even comparible to before. Also, His main characteristic, which, to me and many other people made him funny, his stupidity is repeatidy either over or under used. I don't see Season 5 being any better. It seems the end for the classic Spongebob we all enjoy.
-
It's just the humor. I liked the other humor from season 1,2, and, 3 were hilariarious.(i put hilariarious to emphasise)not saying it was horrible, it just wasn't as funny. It's as if there making things because they can't think of things. But still, SpongeBob gets the highest ratings for a children's cartoon and #3,4, or 5 in animated shows followed by Family Guy and others.I agree with Squiddy, but I still like Spongebob and will not miss one episode as i am a big fan.
-

People dislike it (including me) because everyone is changed Sandy Has become a scientist patrick is stupider spongebob's paycheck is lower Mr.krabs is greedyer Pearl is more selfish squidward is worse at clarinet. Spongebob looks diffrerent . Everything!

United Plankton just gathered all the characters together and [censored by Wilytank] them up really bad.

No, Season 4 is still funny and still for all ages. Anyone who says otherwise it wrong. You should the new writers a chance and not to bash Season 4. What if YOU had to be writer. Do you know how hard it is. This is one of the reasons I'm mad that people always complain about Season 4.
-
1. The humor's more childish and changed along with the style of animation.
2. Storylines aren't as creative as before. It seems like in the beginning, they were just trying to come up with whatever came to mind e.g. Patrick SmartPants, SquidBob TentaclePants. Even my 11 year old cousin doesn't like Spongebob anymore cause of this.
3. Characters have different personalities. Squidward not really much of a change. Patrick's more smarter than Spongebob now (making him less funny), They're overdoing it with Mr. Krabs's greed. Spongebob's not child-like anymore, just childish.
4. They're overdoing it with the annoying Squidward plots. "Good Neighbors" was completely intolerable and not funny at all. Just annoying.
5. It's not funny at all, just chaotic.
6. Spongebob's voice (internationally, no problem), along with appearance, behavior, character completely changed. Childish, yelling for no reason, crazier than before.
7. Appearances of the same characters.
Season 4 has it's pluses though. The season stands out from other seasons, some good episodes. I think they need to get the old writers back though. We should write to Nickelodeon.
-
Other than SpongeBob's voice change, a new style of background music, and a few rotten eggs in the basket, I've been pleasantly surprised by Season 4. To me, it's worlds better than the second half of Season 3. There are some excellent episodes, like the one where Patrick gets smart, and the Patrick-centric episodes that aired last week.
-
And hey, if Season 4 was this good, imagine how good Season 5] will be! It'll either be the crowning lame (mostly Season 4 haters) or the cherry on the icing on the cake (mostly Season 4 lovers).

I would definetly say that some of season 4 is better than last few episodes of season 3 but not the whole 2nd half of it.
-
1.stupid KI episode
2.thats it!
-
As someone mentioned before, Spongebob is going down the same hill FOP is. For example, characters are opposite of what they used to be. Timmy's a brat now, Cosmo being a bad husband, etc. Spongebob's the dumb one now, while Patrick is the smart one. All Spongebob does is yell in the new episodes (and over pointless things). Also am I the only one who thinks they're trying to make Spongebob and Patrick look gayer than before? I liked the new episode with Patrick's song, but the one where Spongebob is waiting for a new toy and him and Patrick start rolling on the floor, hugging. Ay..I don't think the controversy's going to go away after that.
We should get a petition to get Stephen back incharge. Yes, I know he didn't quit the show, but Derek's style of comedy is kind of strange.
-
I hate it because it's stupid and SpongeBob has lost it's touch on this one i mean what happened to the classic episodes? Stephen Hillenburg should'nt of left as the creator and let Derek Drymon take over i mean Derek's ruining the whole series by making it what people think of SpongeBob(which it is not it's just this season) stupid and childish.
-
I heard Camp Lazlo is only going to last a season or two more so maybe the odl writers will come back.
-
1. Too fast paced...everything is cramped into the small airing space and it is just like FOP. And I HATE that show.
2. Not enough Plankton.
3. Is it just me, or is Patrick getting to be less stupid? Cause that's not funny.
4. Voice change alone was a bad idea.
-
The movie destroyed everything nautical and holly about the ol yellow guy
This was the show that got me back into loving nick and is still to this day an absolute mixture of Ren and stimpy/Rocko's modern life and a hint of that surreal Adventures of pete and pete humor.
What happen to the random humor( chocolate with nuts/ pranks alot/ squid on strike/ snowball effect for examples of the random glory)
-
Hopefully Season 5 should put things back on track for you Season 4 haters. I mean, "Boat Smarts" sounds exactly like "Krusty Krab Training Video", and I know how much you people loved that one. :)
-
I heard Camp Lazlo is only going to last a season or two more so maybe the odl writers will come back.
Really? that's a relief then. Cause all the good writers deserted Spongebob and went to other cartoons on Cartoon Network. I like Camp Lazlo but they make Lazlo too much like Spongebob (personality wise).
I have to agree with those who say they hate Spongebob's new voice too. I adore Tom Kenny and all of his voice work, but other characters he's done and the previous Spongebob voices never annoyed me. It's not just the pitch of the voice, but that the acting of Spongebob is too naive.
-

Doesn't seem like the old writers are really needed at this point in season 4 or season 5, to me. The episodes have gotten a lot better than in the beginning of season 4 and made people laugh and watch even more.
The comedy and animation is back like it used to be but the only flaw they still need to work on is the voicing.
-

I sort of doubt it.. Most of them are all starting new shows, mostly for Cartoon Network. Kaz, C.H. Greenblatt, Aaron Springer, and I believe Derek Drymon are all starting new cartoons, and they were some of the key writers for Seasons 1-3.
But yeah, I sort of agree, the end of season 4 made me laugh much more than the midway episodes. I don't think the show will ever be quite as good as it used to be though, but considering the fact that the new writers are competing against the shadows of seasons 1-3 I'd say they're doing alright.

Season 4 has its good moments and its bad ones. 'All That Glitters' was the worst one ever in my opinion, since SB was the biggest wuss I have ever seen.

I don't like that episode either, it was rather annoying. And the only other time SB was a huge wuss was in "No Weenies Allowed", but it was funny.

We would be better with them ending it. =(
And you consider yourself a spongebob fan?!!?!? HOW DARE YOU SAY THOSE WORDS!! If yu hated it that much then why don't u just stop watching it!? In the name of all that is Spongebob, WHY DID U JUST SAY THAT!??! I mean, Season 4 wasn't THAT bad! Of course some episodes weren't that funny but u don't have to say it would have been better off just stopping the entire SERIES! Have u noticed how ANGRY I am right now!? You are a bad influence to all people here, and if u say that, how do even call yourself a Spongebob fan!!??    People who think like that shouldn't even have joined this site!!!

My name is Rose Wake and I am a proud suporter of Spongebob Season 4.

Goofy_Goober_Girl, you sounded like a bot in that second post. It seems that a lot of people dislike Season 4, and I can see exactly why.
-
Something's different about Nickelodeon too. Whenever the good episodes of Spongebob premiered from 2000-2002 I didn't remember them over-rating these episodes too much. But now Nickelodeon shows too many commercials for Season 4 episodes that make us think they're good, but in the end, people just end up being dissapointed (Dunces and Dragons).
Season 4 isn't so bad I guess, but it's made the show a lot stranger.
