Mac: Our Mac has had every error known to man... and then some. One time it said: "This could not be opened because of an error (-3045) has occured."
PCs are WAY better. Mines only been up for like 1 month and I love it. The Mac has had at least 1 error, everyday for the past 2 weeks. Thursday I had to restart it 5 times in an hour because one program kept quiting itself and then it said I had to restart the computer. I pressed to restart and it froze. If I ever go to the Grand Canyon, I'm taking the Mac with me and throwing it over. That a good enough argument Rocko? The Mac has probably had an average of about 3-5 errors a day.

I cant even remember the last time I got a blue screen. We got ours 2 years ago and it's never crashed. It's a PC.
Booya Grandma.

But that's only when it's run out of memory, and viturl mermory. It's so stable, and don't worry about kornel panic's I have yet to have one.
You're forgetting about Linux. Computers running Linux are generally not referred to as PCs.They aren't? Wow. You learn something new each day. Still, I bet a vast majority of members here are Windows users. I'm not saying there aren't Linux users.
Their are Thousands of virus on PCs, but only about 50 or so for Macs. Here's a plus for the Mac: Eaiser to set-up. TO set up an iMac you just connect the keyboard, mouse, and speakkers, plug you modem in, plug the computer in, and start it up. And then you enter your name and email. Thats it! And Macs dominate the "creative feilds". Most magiznes are made on P.C.'s even P.C. Magiznes are. Alot of music editing is done on the Mac, and video editing too.Um, new PCs have a video editing system. My computer has an anti-virus system on it. Oh, and Macs makeup for not having many viruses, with have a ton of errors, closing programs, freezing.
As for Right click butten, you can simply buy a 2 butten mouse. I have one for my Mac, and it's nice. Even if you have a 1 boutten mouse you can still control click, and get the same funciton as a right click.
For PCs:On a G5 you can right click and I havent had a problem with my Dad's ridicously tricked out G5. About the internet, it always works for me. The only problems are on my mom's Dell Dimension 4500. I'm writing this message on the Dell and the keyboard is loud and hurts my fingers. My dad uses a Macally keyboard its quiet and comfortable. One thing good about my mom's Dell is that the YIM rocks at version 5.6 and my dad's YIM is 2.5.3 and its no good. No IMViroments, no cool fonts and no color customizing blows.
You can run the vast majority of games on these babies!
You get Solitaire!
You can PrintScreen
You can right click things!
Against PCs:
- They're more vulnerable to viruses
- Crashes (ie. blue screen of death) look creepier
For Macs:
- The skins on applications look much more fancier
- The keyboards feel nicer
- iTunes!
Against Macs:
- There's no print screen
- There's no right-click button :(
- Some things on the Internet don't display properly
Ok, let me do MY comparison.UNfair comparison, you are comapirng a 4 year old iMac to a new PC. That's infair, and in Apple Works you can change the format to a GIF or JPEG. Mac OS X is much faster anyway, if your computer can handle it. XP can be really slow too. Try running XP on a 900mhz PIII sometime.
PC: Games come standard.
Mac: The only games I can play are on the internet.
PC: Mine has a 68.0 GB hard drive
Mac: The Mac has a puny 6.44 GB hard drive
PC: The internet's fine, except for when the provider is having problems.
Mac: It really does slow down the internet. I've compared for the two computers and the Macs internet is MUCH slower.
PC: The only error that's ever happend on the PC was because of a website I was visiting.
Mac: Has multiple errors in a day.
PC: My PC has a DVD drive, CD drive and Floppy disk drive. It also has 6 USB ports.
Mac: My Mac has a CD drive. It also has 2 USB ports. One's already taken by the keyboard.
PC: A bit complicated to setup, but once it's up, it runs fine.
Mac: Easy to setup, but once it's setup, it's slow.
PC: When you make a paint file, it can be put into Jpg format, Gif format, Tiff format, PNG format and 4 different forms of Bitmap. Some of which can be put on the internet.
Mac: When you make a paint file, it can only be put in Apple Works format, which cannot be put on the internet.
I think that's about all I need to say.
Dude. Don't post on ancient topics.Sean that was a good post, i gotta say.

Yes there are, but that's not even the point. To get a half-way decent PC, you gotta custom build it. For a Mac, you buy one and your set.Yes, a Dual 2GHz G5 from factory costs about $3000.00 USD, and it's speed is equivalent to an Alienware Aurora customized with $15,000.00 USD to it's name. Maybe a little faster. Vurginia Tech built the world's 3rd fastest supercomputer which was 10 teraflops, and cost 5.2 million dollars USD. The fastest is 35 teraflops but cost 550 million dollars USD.

I could build a computer that outperforms a dual G5 for less than $3000.... Are you implying that you hate Macintosh?
Man you guys are way above my head. Talking all your computer and gigabites. But anyways I'd pick PC because that's what I have. It's a Dell 4300S. It works well. It's 2 years old though.Have you even used Mac?
I could build a computer that outperforms a dual G5 for less than $3000.Would it be legal?
Oh yea, i forgot about the legal thing... Ah well, a licence of Windows XP Pro can't cost that much, can it? Anyway, for a workstation, a dual FX-53 with with a gig of low latency pc3200, a 9800xt, a 74gb 10,000rpm drive for the OS, a 250gig for storage, and all the other shiz found in a comp can be bought for ~$3000.Dual FX-53? Processors?
Awww now I got the Duke Nukem theme song stuck in my head again.QuoteI could build a computer that outperforms a dual G5 for less than $3000.Would it be legal?
Oh yeah. Umm. I use both platforms, just as I use Windows/Linux.
Basically you guys could duke it out all day, and the fact of the matter is, people who like Mac will like mac, and those who like Windows will like windows.
Nuf Said.
FX-53... AMD's socket 940 64bit CPUs at 2.4 ghz.QuoteOh yea, i forgot about the legal thing... Ah well, a licence of Windows XP Pro can't cost that much, can it? Are you doing this?

BOTH Microsoft and Apple are losing their edge. Linux is rising, fast. They've already dominated the server market. It's only a matter of time until they take over the PC market.Linux may be rising, but i'm still gonna use Mac. Mac pwns and YOU KNOW IT!!!!
No, they don't. And you know that. Macs are insanely high priced, and they aren't worth it. This one is 1,000 dollars, and mine is better + cheaper. If Steve Jobs hadn't gotten rid of all the competition, he wouldn't be able to charge $2 grand for a computer.QuoteBOTH Microsoft and Apple are losing their edge. Linux is rising, fast. Windows XP Pro licence, $136. (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=37-102-143&depa=6)For those of you with the crazy opinions that Apple has insane prices, a license for Mac OS X is $7 less.

And Linux dominating the PC market doesn't affect us.
Yes. I used them all through elementary and middle school. And I hate them. With a passion.Schools buy the cheapest and best computers for educational purposes. So obviously, Macs aren't over priced and they're not just good for personal use. People using Macs at schools get better grades and learn a lot more about what they can do with the right computer. And I'm assuming elementary school for you goes back at least 5 years or so. Have you noticed they've gotten way better since then?
Then you only used old ones. And you got a CUSTOM PC! That's not a fair comparsion. By far. The new ones are like...... BETTER!So what? I still paid a lot less than 1,000 for mine. A lot of PCs are custom, my dad builds them.
*Flame suit on*

Oh, puh-lease. PC forever. I'm never ever even going to TRY a Mac.That's the problem. People are hooked on there good-for-nothing PC, and are afraid to even try something that's way better.

my PCHmm......... You own what you hate? I'll throw mine off the skyscraper as soon as you do yours.
My Dad works with computers. He knows his stuff. He bought one Mac for us, just to show us what it was like. We got a new computer (a PC) and there is no comparison. So much more stuff seems available on PCs.There's more stuff, but we got the better stuff.

Forget that stuff. It's all about the games. And games are where Windows is the only way to go. (unfortunately)Computers aren't for games. That's why they made game systems. And even so, there are a lot of good games out there for Macs.
Yeah i tried one it was ok but it sucked on the fact that the monitor was with the compUh, that's one of the best parts.
Macs may be very good computers, but they aren't worth the price they're charging. A lot more software is produced for Windows too.How many times do I have to say this? All Kevin is saying is that Macs are way too expensive. All I'm saying is you guys are so wrong it's not even funny.
I'm not paying 2,000 dollars for a machine that most software won't work for. Then you wonder, "Hmm..... I wonder why the software doesn't work. Oh yeah I know. No one owns a mac to buy the software!"First of all, that just doesn't make sense. Second of all, there's a ton of high quality software out there for Macs.
Usually games come out for windows a year earlier than for Macs. Or not at all! Which really can suckNo they don't...

As a matter of fact I do. My sister owns a mac. I know exactly what I'm talking about. If it was OS X and you actuall used it extensively you would know that Macs are better, so you wouldn't have posted that.
The fact that you have this much love for a inanimate object proves that you are one of those people.Since when do I have love for a inanimate object? I've never baught an Apple bumper sticker or whatever. I'm just telling everyone the smart way to go.
Prove me wrong then.I already have, but if you want me to again, I gladly will.
Not really. Almost every program can be beaten by a PC alternative. Are you kidding? No way an app made by/for Micro$oft can beat out one by Apple, or the people that develop programs for it.
This Topic MUST be pinned*Pinned* :)
Yes, they do. I could give specific figures if you want. But I'll save myself time by saying that games are released on Windows first 99% of the time, and many never reach Macs.I'm an Average Joe and Gamer.
And yes, Macs are expensive. If you have money to burn, you don't play games, and you don't have the skill necessary to use Linux, go ahead and buy a Mac.
Types of Computer users, and what they need:
1. Average Joe - Doesn't know, or care, what his/her system is running, as long as it can send an email. The dude should have Windows, because it's cheap. They don't need to spend $1,500 for an email box. They can get a crappy Windows box for $500.
2. Gamer - Needs Windows, because thats THE gaming OS.
3. Programmer - Most likely has the ability to use Linux, and will do so.
4. Multimedia creater person - Stays the heck away from Linux, but after that, it's a toss-up between Mac and Windows. Windows has the 3d apps, but Apple has the video editing apps.
The reasons why i don't like macsThe third reason is sort of rediculous. That's not a reason not to use Macs.
1. The monitor is with the comp
2. they are over priced
3. They did not have the first graphical OS
4. basicly anything i like won't work under it

I just heard thatQuoteThe reasons why i don't like macsThe third reason is sort of rediculous. That's not a reason not to use Macs.

And yes, Macs are expensive. If you have money to burn, you don't play games, and you don't have the skill necessary to use Linux, go ahead and buy a Mac.And yes, Macs are worth it. If you have the money to spend wisely, go ahead and buy a Mac.
1. Average Joe - Doesn't know, or care, what his/her system is running, as long as it can send an email. The dude should have Windows, because it's cheap. They don't need to spend $1,500 for an email box. They can get a crappy Windows box for $500.1. Exactly. Windows isn't meant for people that know what they're doing. It can't do much.
2. Gamer - Needs Windows, because thats THE gaming OS.

There's a lot of stuff Windows has that Mac doesn't.Well, you got me there. We don't have all those viruses. But other than that, there's a lot of quality stuff Macs have that Windows doesn't.
The Earth Simulator by NEC is the fastest supercomputer avalible, at 35 Teraflops, and cost 350 Million dollars.I hear, but apparently no one else does. That's called insanely cheap, not insanely expensive.
The Los Alamos Lab by HP is the world's second fastest supercomputer, at 13 teraflops, and cost 215 Million dollars.
The Virginia Tech System X by Apple is the world's third fastest supercomputer, at 10 teraflops, and cost 5.2 Million dollars.
Ya hear?
Also another proble is that if something beaks, you have to buy a whole new mac but if the monitor is seperpate maybe so...No you don't. You can easily get the one piece from the actual computer part replaced. But, the chances of something breaking is unlikely, anyway.
That's called insanely cheap, not insanely expensive.

Macs are worth it.
If I had $5.2 million, I would happily buy a G5 supercomputer. But I have ~$700, so I'm building a Windows gaming rig. As for games, FPS's and RTS's are where PC is king. With the exception of Halo (which is on PC, but which I prefer on Xbox), all of the good FPS's are on PC (yes, I realize that Counter Strike, Half Life, and other PC FPSs are released for consoles, but they are much better on a keyboard and mouse). RTS's are just not feasable using a controller. A mouse is needed for the experience to be smooth. In most other genres, consoles are better though.Gamers should get WinXP. I like Mac OS X because of their elegance, stability, and comfort. If your only gonna use your comp for games, go ahead and get Windows.
If I had 300 million bucks I wouldn't waste it on a computer.
Thank you for admitting that.QuoteIf I had $5.2 million, I would happily buy a G5 supercomputer. But I have ~$700, so I'm building a Windows gaming rig. It dosen't cost $300 Million. It costs 5.2 million.
BTW, The G5 supercomputer was brought up to show that Mac is roughly 20 times worth it, compared to PCs.
My mom's Dell has crashed twice this week. It's making a straining noise right now, and its really slow, so your brother's Dell is probably really slow anyway.
My mom's Dell has crashed twice this week. It's making a straining noise right now, and its really slowShe must have a dell optiplex gl "post a pic of it to let me see"
so your brother's Dell is probably really slow anyway.FYI it goe's 2.0 ghz, it has a FSB of 533, 128mb video card adn 160 gb of space and 1 stick of 512 mb ram
Now mine goes 2.5 ghz with a volcano heat sync 128mb video card 120gb of space a 52x cd burner a 32x cd reader for back up, 2 FD's FSB 333mhz and an asus mb all put in a big dog computer caseYou can't get all that for just $300.
oops it was $800Yeah, my mom's comp probably does got spyware.
no that is not true my bros friend has a 800mhz 128mb ram 30gb hdd 64mb vc comp and it is slow
Pat101 ur moms comp must have spyware or a slow hard drive or slow fsb
Spongey34 patrick101 I have a question
Have you ever built one computer?
and im starting to suspect that all those so called statement you said are false you just hate dells and pc's
then again maybe not...
no that is not true my bros friend has a 800mhz 128mb ram 30gb hdd 64mb vc comp and it is slowIs it a Mac? I said an 800 MHz Mac is faster than a 2 GHz PC. I know that an 800 MHz PC is not faster than a 2 GHz PC.
My mom's computer is a Dell Dimension 4500. I HATE THIS CRAP! It takes 10 minutes to boot MS Word. And it's a 3.0 GHz.mabey you just have to much crap in it.
Spongey34 what proof do u have?!?!?!?Quoteno that is not true my bros friend has a 800mhz 128mb ram 30gb hdd 64mb vc comp and it is slowIs it a Mac? I said an 800 MHz Mac is faster than a 2 GHz PC. I know that an 800 MHz PC is not faster than a 2 GHz PC.

12. first ture unix based consummer OS, (sorry people but the average user won't use Linux)Yep, the simple truth why Mac OS X and Linux are far better than Windows is because it's Unix based.
Mac's are better for video editing and graphic's work. Did you know that even most P.C. Magizines are published on Mac's because they are supier to a P.C, for graphic's works. And Bill Gate's said the iMovie is brillant. And here's a list of firsts:Almost all of those are incorrect, but I'm limited on time here, so I'll just cover some of the crucial ones.
1. First consumer level GUI
2. First consumer level 3.5 floppy drive
3. First consuner computer with a mouse standard.
4. First speach technoledgy
5. plug and play
6. first animation techledgy
7. first color matching screen, scanner, printer
8. first sound input
9. first virtual reality
10. first Built in Networking
11. first CD-Rom
12. first ture unix based consummer OS, (sorry people but the average user won't use Linux)
13. First 64 bit proscer in a concummer machine
14. First computer without a floopy
15. first computer
16. First consumer digital video editing software.
And their's tons and tons of more!!
Almost all of those are incorrect,True, but I can come up with the ones that are correct, plus, I'd like to see what a Windows fan can come up with.
12. ...it is technically not unix based.Actualy, it is (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/unix/).
The processors don't need as high amounts of CPU cycles, so they don't need as big Gigahertz in processors to keep up. And it's dual. So it's simple.
and the g5 only goe's 2.0ghz
OK, first off, its not PeeCee. Its PC. It stands for Personal Computer.amen brotha! macs = TRASH
Well, I hate macintosh computers. They suck, and all the hardware is propritary(sp?), meaning you can only get it from Apple. And I used Macs for 7 years. They suck.
amen brotha! macs = TRASHJust another stupid comment...
macs dont have any cool games, you cant buy nice video cards for them (excpt the $400 16 MB cards) and the likeActual, Macs have lots of games. And again, computers aren't for games.
Long live the PC!!! *worships computer*Dude, I'd kill myself before I worshiped a PC. I mean, looking at them is bad enough, and using them is even worse. But that's just down right scary.
computers aren't for games.Computers can be for a lot of things. That's the beauty of a computer. You can customize it to do whatever you want.
geez i was kidding about worshiping it. and yes, i would kill myself before i would ACTUALLY do thatQuoteLong live the PC!!!  *worships computer*Dude, I'd kill myself before I worshiped a PC. Some OSes can get along, while others can't. Tux dosen't abuse the Mac. :tongue:Haha! Gotta love it.
Spongey must feel really bad for me now... I'm using a Dell. But in only 5 weeks the abuse ends.OMG are those ISA slots? those are a thing of the past...
People that hate Macs have only used the old ones.

PC's da bomb. You know why? Cause I said so :PIf they're da bomb, why do they waste so many CPU cycles for no reason? And they wear down and crash often too much.
Dude, my PC's never crashed. My dad's, my mom's, my brothers, and other brothers haven't. If people would stop loading all this crap on their computers, nothing would happen.QuotePC's da bomb. You know why? Cause I said so :PIf they're da bomb, why do they waste so many CPU cycles for no reason? And they wear down and crash often too much.
Macs pwn. PCs suck.
I've tried "really fast" PCs, and they weren't much faster than this Dell.Where in my post did I mention ANYTHING about CPU speeds? It might help if you use something different than the same arguement every single time.
Mac > PC.
I've tried "really fast" PCs, and they weren't much faster than this Dell. How fast are "really fast" computers and what brand?
Mac > PC.
Do you know how PCs crash?Once again, if people wouldn't load all the crap onto their computers, they wouldn't crash. I know many people who's PC never crashed.
Slow CPU speeds are a sign of crashes... PCs can't keep as stable as Macs... Which is why that Macs are faster, and Macs don't crash.
This topic is becoming really strange. Join in where the debate is taking place, and this topic won't be so hard to follow.
How fast are "really fast" computers and what brand? There's no exact speed, but again, an 800 Mhz Mac preforms much better than a 2-3 GHz PC.
Read it (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,112749,pg,1,00.asp). I don't even need to comment on that.I don't need to comment on that either, but for different reasons, most likely.
1. Don't say something like "MACS R00L YOU!" OR "PC ARE TEH KING". That just makes you ignorant.
2. There is a huge difference between a fast PC and a slow PC when you are using it for stuff other than solitaire and web browsing. When you are playing games, compiling, encoding, doing graphics work, drafting, rendering, etc, there is a noticable difference between your average Dell and a custom built workstation or gaming rig.
3. Right now, I consider a fast PC to be an Althon XP at 2.0 ghz or more, any Athlon 64, a Pentium 4 at 2.4 ghz or more, with 512mb or more of pc2700 or faster, and at least an fx5200 or a radeon 9200. That would be the bottom of "fast computers" for me, and it happens to be the minimum recommended specs to run FarCry.
How fast are "really fast" computers and what brand?Alienware Aurora, 2GB of RAM, and Western Digital RAID Array 10,000 RPM Hard Drives. It was very, very good in CS (http://www.counter-strike.net/), although it wasn't so stable... Booting wasn't quality of Mac... Cold... Hard... BOOTING UP...Terrible. Macs can just do things like booting, and keeping stable no matter what better.
That's why you don't have many games on your comp. That is another result of crashing
Read it (http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,112749,pg,1,00.asp). I don't even need to comment on that. Here's another rule don't compare you brand new PC to your 6 yearold Mac no duh it's fasterm, it's new.

Who wants to switch computersI most certainly do not, thank you.
MEEP Has a 6 year old iMac and a lot newer hp Compaq.Um, my iMac is 4 years old. It's been trouble since the day I got it. It's always quiting programs when I'm in the middle of doing something. It freezes a lot when you tell it to do something and you have to restart it. One of my friends was using a recent Mac and couldn't get it to work. 1 hour later he found out he just had to restart it. The computer didn't say anything about it. In his own words, "I went in that house liking Mac and left hating them."
Update to Mac OS X if you have the money it's well worth it, and also update your memory before switching to Mac OS X. It needs a mininum of 128MB and it works much better with 256mb.QuoteMEEP Has a 6 year old iMac and a lot newer hp Compaq.Um, my iMac is 4 years old. It's been trouble since the day I got it. It's about $130 for panther, but you can get Jaguer for about $80. And memory is very cheap right now anyway so I'd atleast recomend upgrading memory. MAc OS X runs better with more memory. And it use's every kilobyte. My Mac started with 6.44 GB of memory. It's down to 4 something now.
You mean hard drive space. The new Macs have about 60-80 gigs.Oops, did I say memory? I meant HD space. My new one has 68 GB. Big difference.
How muc memory do you have?Um, what's memory measured in?
My dad's G4 got 160GB of disk space.
As for MEEP!, I think Rocko meant RAM.
Nope, dad is in France.
You must have upgraded that or something. I looked up the top-of-the-line G4 and it had a 80GB HD.He must have custumed ordered it. You can do that you know.

Favorite OS: Mac OS X 10.3.3 (It PwnZ)haha. I got 10.3.4 today.
You can get them for about 1,500.Oh, and that's a bargain?
Linux is going to end up being the next Windows. No they're not. Linux doesn't suck. Windows does.
Dude, they do. Go to http://www.apple.com (http://www.apple.com), and look at the computers there. Why don't you? Compare them to what you think to be a reasonable PC. For an equal price, you can get a Mac so much better than a PC, it's not even funny.
If Linux continues to grow, they might put some companies out of business.Linux can't put other companies out of business. It's not a company, it's an OS, and it's not even owned by anyone. However, Microsoft will continue to see there profits decrease, as people begin to realize the advantages of the products that Apple makes.
Mine sure does. I was looking through my internet history and found a funny picture. I was not trying to do this. That dosen't even make sense.
Exactly. That's what I don't get. He was saying that Macs suck, and then shows a pic from Windows...What he said...

Dude, you've said P.C.'s have more viruses. You want to know why? Since it'd be pointless for the virus writers to write viruses for Macs. It'd be like releasing a deadly virus on Edmond, Oklahoma. Dude, you've said P.C.'s have more viruses. You want to know why? Since it'd be pointless for the virus writers to write viruses for Macs. It'd be like releasing a deadly virus on Edmond, Oklahoma. There's basically no one there, so hardly anyone would get infected.No.
Not knowing what this program is, the user would have to be very foolish the do so.......
err i hate this whole topic.Quoteok i was watching some of the special features on my lord of the rings DVD and i noticed that they were making things for the movie on a PC. I happened to be a dell. All good movies are made with Macs. No, I'm not making that up.QuoteThere Is Nothing Wrong With PCsWow. That's hilarious.
That's exactly how a vast majority of Windows viruses work.No. You're obviously missing the whole point.
so your saying lord of the rings isn't good because they used pc's?No, I'm not.
No, I'm not. A vast majority of Windows viruses you have to open an attachment from someone you dont know.QuoteThat's exactly how a vast majority of Windows viruses work.No. You're obviously missing the whole point.
No, I'm not. A vast majority of Windows viruses you have to open an attachment from someone you dont know.No kidding, but that's not the whole point. It was an example. "OS X will prompt the user to enter the Administrative username and password." That's the whole point. Windows doesn't make you do that. Hackers are smart and they know that. That's why more viruses are made for Windows, simply because they will actually work (which is a bad thing).
And on a side note, this thread is about Macs v. PC's. Not Mac v. Windows!Tell that to yourself. You're the one who brought this argument up. And it looks like you're pretty eager to end it.
So My Dads Computer Sucks?thats an awesome computer!
His computer
800 gig of space.
768 Of RAM
240 AMD Opteron
2x DVD Burner
19 Flat Screen Moniter
Asuse SK8N Motherboard
hackers are dumb! if they were smart they wouldn't try to hack.Actually, they're pretty smart. I'd like to see someone try to do what they're doing. They know a lot of systems and other things that you people don't.
So My Dads Computer Sucks?Actually, I never said it did, but with Windows, I'm sure it does compared to mine.
What? You're the one who's comparing an top-of-the-line Mac to a Gateway. IT's kind of like comparing the Pope to a convict. You've gotta be kidding. Everytime I do a comparison, I use two eaually priced computers. I even use a more expensive PC, but of course, the Mac is better.
No it doesn't. You've never used a good P.C., so shut your mouth.Quotehackers are dumb! if they were smart they wouldn't try to hack.Actually, they're pretty smart. Here Are Some Facts...that made me laugh real hard man. SPongey and IZ take the challenge!
Q: What does a MAC and an elephant have in common?
A: They're both big, bulky, slow, fat, and grey.
Q: A high performance MAC and and a high performance IBM are in a store display window. A customer walks into the store. Which one does he choose?
A: The high performance IBM. There is no such thing as a high performance MAC.
Q: What do you call 50 Macs falling out of an airplane?
A: Air pollution.
I NEVER SAID MACS SUCK! I EVEN SAID THEY WERE GOOD! STOP PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH!I wasn't even talking to you, and you've been the one putting words in my mouth.

are you taking the challenge?Sure, but it won't matter. IZlover's computer will have Windows on it, and mine will have Mac OS X. Thus, mine will be better, regardless of the specs.
Sorry, PatrickStarr2k3, but that was THE stupidest post I've ever read. It wasn't even funny like your other stupid ones. Stupid. But The Post Is True.........
But The Post Is True...Okay, now THAT was funny. Seriously, if you or anyone else thinks that's true, you have major problems. I'm not joking. I'm scared knowing that you truly believe that. I really am.
Windows has never given me problems on my XP. So I can't say I know what you're talking about. Maybe you're putting junk on it.Quoteare you taking the challenge?Sure, but it won't matter. Mac OS X isn't as great as you say it is. So get off your freaking high horse and realize, you're the same as everyone else.Yeah, it's a lot better than I say it is. I'm not the same as everyone, because I'm actual smart enough to have something good.
Maybe you're putting junk on it.Putting junk on what?
Putting junk on what?On your Dell. (You're the one with the dell right?)
I'm smart enough too. The reasons you say are bologna. I looked up a Macintosh laptop, and the cheapest one was for 1,200. For a 12" screen! That's freaking crazy! And you keep saying Macs are the same amount as P.C.'s, well that's wrong. Mine was $300, and could easily PWN any 2,000 Dell.QuoteMac OS X isn't as great as you say it is. Your Calling Yourself Smarter Than A Business.haha, no. I'm not. Learn to read. And I can easily start my own business too, if you want.
Dude, know what you're talking about. I'm not even gonna respond to that.Small business being the keyword. No intelligent large company would buy them.
Oh, and I'm not the only one who thinks different. "If you have a small business, get a Mac. There?s no question about it."-Richard Ziskin

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Am I The Only One Who Finds That Funny?
Aren't These technically 1 word or actually No word posts?haha, that's all you have to say?
I will argue with the moron later.Arguing with yourself is unhealthy. Seriously, out of all the people who posted in this thread today, you made the stupidest posts. It's not even funny anymore.
Gotta Go To Sleep, Got School Tomorrow :(i gotta go to sleep too. soon i'll be done school and i'll get to argue with people about computers all night.

I heard that they stopped making it.Making what?
Apple doesn't offer it. Microsoft makes a version of office for Apple, because they think they'll make more money. They should make money off of it because it's a great program.
*Sigh*I don't see what you're getting at.
Read the thread again...
Not more people than PC people. More people are buying Macs now than they did... say, a few years ago.WTF???...
All the software that you have on your PC, you can find the same or even better version of it for Macs. And there's this thing called Virtual PC,Yeah, my sister has that on her Powerbook(I think its called that.) I guess that's how much Mac users like Windows.
You use it before you flame it you PC userQuit making no sense.
1.Dell sux so bad1. I know that.
2.Get a mac then we'll talk

1. No, Windows just dosen't work right. What do you mean it doesn't work right? It works fine.
You have no idea...Ok, give me something thats wrong with Windows that Mac is better at....and don't say "It's more stable." or whatever you say.
It has AirPort Express and AirTunes. :cool:You mean AirPort Extreme and iTunes.
You mean AirPort Extreme and iTunes.Nope. Go to Apple's site. It's the new thing they released.
ME is just 98 with the additional feature of being able to turn back time with a System Restore. How exactly does that work? :beta:
So it took 2 years for MS to add one simple feature. :laugh:Pwn3d!

Cannot build them
monitor with comp
only external devices
Costs too much for too little
they always lie
they need dual prossesor for 64bit
if you drop a mac with a crt monitor you have to buy a new one
they still use isa slots
if you interupt a cd it frezes
same with floppy
something internal breaks ur screwed
not many applications i like don't work with it
only one button clik
no print screen
everything is made by mac so it costs very much
you cant use pc stuff on a mac
... Never seen such unbiased and unexperienced comparsions like that before, Korax.

10. haha, floppy? You're living in the past, foo. It's always good to have a Floppy Disc Drive because of the old games and stuff on them. I've used the Floppy Disc Drive a few times on my computer.
14. You can take a picture of the screen. But you can't get it into Jpegs or Gifs. It just won't let me do it.
My Mac's mouse has 12 buttons.I doubt that. 3+ seems like too many buttons on a mouse, 1 seems like too few.
Biulding them is funFirst of all, don't listen to your friends and other members here. They obviously don't know what they're talking about.
Yes i know that
external devices cost more
WHen i was using a mac I loaded something onto it and opened the cd rom drive and it froze
Yet today i still use floppies
You need to learn how to build a computer
SMartjunco (A member here) said "pfft it needs dual prossesors to be 64 bit"
Yes it is true if something internal breaks ur screwed. Yet if you have a separate unit with monitor you can fix it
They wwere not made by apple
MOUSE only has 1 button click unless you buy 2 button
It's always good to have a Floppy Disc Drive because of the old games and stuff on them. I've used the Floppy Disc Drive a few times on my computer.Well, the old computers still have them, if you're still in to old games.
But you can't get it into Jpegs or Gifs. It just won't let me do it.Yes you can. It's very easy to do. Just because you don't know how to do something, doesn't mean that Macs suck. It means you should stay clear of this debate.
I also don't like the single-click mouse. It gets rather annoying when you're doing projects. Then buy a different mouse. It's not that hard.

Um, you told me how to do it and it still won't work. It keeps telling me to add something to a folder when it's already there.Um, I told everyone to stop basing their facts off of OS 9. Get OS X. Then start talking.
Money doesn't grow on trees. I don't want to have to keep buying extra stuff for a computer when I don't need to.Exactly. You don't need to. Apple's Pro Mouse is a lot better than anything else you might find.

1 You can custom build Macs from Apple's online store, thank you.
2 The built-in monitor is only with iMacs, eMacs, and portables. The Powermacs don't have a built in monitor. And you can connect another monitor to an iMac, eMac, or portable anyway
3 PowerMacs are highly expandable - you can swap hard drives, graphics cards, almost anything. Same with the iMacs, eMacs, and portables, but to a lesser extent
4 The initial price may be higher than the crappy $600 box you get, but tech support, upgrades, and return on your investment will end up paying for the computer in the end
5 Who lies? Apple? They may make some false claims, no more than any Microsoft or Dell would either... Apple makes reliable hardware and software - please, stop being so close-minded
6 Most people don't even know what 32-bit is, let alone 64. It doesn't affect the average user, even the professional - unless, of course, your planning on becoming a rocket-scientist
7 Who would be so STUPID to drop any computer?! The only machine Apple makes that has a CRT is the eMac - which, in fact, have handles, just for those who are warry of dropping them...like you
8 I am not big on expansion card terms, so I'll give you that one
9 How does it freeze, may I ask? How do you interrupt a CD? Do you jam your finger in the slot? At most, if any one app crashes, it is that one app only - the rest of the system is fine
10 Who needs floppies these days? Seriously... PC manufacturers waste money by building machines w/ 'em
11 True - but that is unlikely. And, is that not the same for PC's?
12 See answer #16
13 You can buy a regular 2 button mouse at any tech store, and it will work with the Mac - its need to be USB though...
14 Print screen? As in printing what is currently on the monitor? You take a screenshot (CMD+SHIFT+3), open it up, and print - now thats not too hard, is it?
15 Everything is not made by Apple, although some of the more quality apps are. Hey, quality over quantity, and Apple's got PCs hands down :original:
16 Its called Virtual PC, dumbbutt. Microsoft recently bought it, in case you didn't know
There ya go, now read a book before you start blindly makin' statements like that again

Yeah, they are overpriced. I'm not willing to dish out over $1000 for a computer that will be used for personal use.QuoteI'm not wrong. Macs are overpriced. ^_^Just because you haven't done any research and aren't used to quality stuff, doesn't mean that Macs are overpriced. So yeah, you are wrong.
you can get a good pc laptop for 700. instead of paying 2000 for a mac laptop. My PC was about $300, yet it still pwns a lot of the other PC's.

Well obviosly your parrents are ignorant. My Dad has been working with comps for I dont even know how long. SO dont even be talking about my father that way. He would outsmart you
Macs are great computers, but I'm not going to spend that for a personal computer. Now for a business computer, maybe.I don't know about all you but i've seen alot of buisnesses use dells.
Some businesses had to put lots of Money down the toilet because of Dell.QuoteMacs are great computers, but I'm not going to spend that for a personal computer. Now for a business computer, maybe.I don't know about all you but i've seen alot of buisnesses use dells.
The average school can't afford to pay $2,000 for one computer when they can get four computers for $500 each instead.Ummm... That was a G5, and that was for the government. Schools can buy Combo Drive eMacs for $700, which is alot better discount than Dell gives.
Let's see.Not 4 Dells for $500, 4 Dells for $500 EACH. And they don't really give good discounts anyway.
4 computers for $500, or 1 for $700.... that's a hard choice.
You've gotta be pretty stupid if you think that you're actually gonna get something good for $500. Oh wait, 4 for $500? My bad, that $125 computer must be really good.plankton the evil one(SZ member) has a dell and it's just great. It's a really good computer.
When actually inside the vaccum, there is no air because when the RGB guns are oxidized they are disrupted by pressure and don't work. So when you drop it. The air gets back in taking the glass with it and other stuff so it implodes. What does that have to do with anything?
Notice I said $500 EACH. Anyway, I hate Dells. It is easily possible to make a good computer for $500Yeah, my box was cheap to build, though my dad already had the radeon and AMD lying around. Without those costs, it was $300. LCD's aren't that great. I don't notice much difference, except for price.
$50 Nforce2 mobo
$75 512mb pc3200
$75 Athlon XP-m 2400+
$30 some nice heatsink and a few fans
$80 160gb hard drive
$100 9600 pro
$60 a decent case with PSU
$20 a CD-RW drive
$10 a floppy drive
$500
$600 if you want a 17 inch CRT too.
BTW, that is an overclocking and gaming rig. I could build a regular box for a LOT less.
As for the LCD vs. CRT debate, I'm manly enough to carry a heavy CRT to a LAN party, I don't live inside a cramped cubicle where there is only a 5 inch deep desk, and my electricity is cheap enough for the power savings not to matter, so I have no need for an LCD.Um, I don't care about carying it around... I was talking about the actual screen. LCD is better than CRT.
Question! Can you get a Mac customized?Yes you can.
Yeah but it still costs over $800 for less stuffBut it's all the stuff you really need at all.
No one needs that good of a computer for personal use.QuoteYeah but it still costs over $800 for less stuffBut it's all the stuff you really need at all.

My moms school has Mac's 8.6 version...it sux the biggest...they need to upgrade. The teachers have Dells while the students use macsThat's the problem, you're living in the past foo. You and other haters base their opinion on "Well, um, I used a Mac 5 years ago in my school... I think it was OS 7." and then you say Macs suck. Um, no. Get Mac OS X 10.3.5... beter yet, wait until 10.4. Then you'll realize that you were the crazy one, and not me. And about it "being too expensive," OS X is cheaper than XP.

I dunno if that's even true, but Home ain't gonna get you anywhere. Wait, neither is Pro. :laugh:Well i mean like way older versions like from 1996
I believe it's coming out for Macs soon... but why use a computer for games?
Let's put it this way: M$ (notice the $) cares more about the money than the product. They're the "most popular," and they think everything revolves around them, so they just make up some crap, and sell it. Then the people, who are just as ignorant as them, buy it. Apple on the other hand, actually makes quality stuff. They're the ones who put some time and effort into making a good product as to actually pull people away from the crazed world of Micrsoft that they're stuck in. And when someone smarts comes around and buys one of their products, they're actually rightfully earning the money.
Yes. I'm running OS X and OS 9 right now.
Dunno. I'm still trying to figure out whether your asking if today's Macintosh computers support outdated OSs, or if Apple still supports those outdated OSs.http://www.apple-history.com/ (http://www.apple-history.com/)

I'm just asking this cause I really don't know the answer but would a pc mouse/keyboard go in with a mac computer? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I was just wonderingIt depends which one you're talking about. JUst go to the website of the mouse you want to use with the Mac, and see if it's compatible.

Anyone check out the new G5 iMac yet? That thing looks pretty cool. I'd much rather have a dual g5 PowerMac though.Yeah, it looks awesome. It seems to be about twice as good as my current iMac, which is only a few years old.
well said
Well, I hate macintosh computers. They suck, and all the hardware is propritary(sp?), meaning you can only get it from Apple. And I used Macs for 7 years. They suck.
Do you have any reasons to back yourself up? :blink:Quotewell said

Eh... You need to do some research. There are alot of Apple resellers.

What are you talking about? :blink:Read the posts if you want to know what's going on. Anyways I like macs and pcs the same now and we should talk about the platforms not the oses.
The reason that PCs get all the viruses is that the virus programmer is getting more results for their labor. If you want attention, wouldn't you attack the side with the most systems? Very few viruses even exist to attack Macs simply because there arent enough of them to take down.1.) The oses that run the pcs get the viruses, not the actually pces, if you had windows and linux dual booting and windows got a virus, it would not affect linux in any way.
Secondly, the PC platform runs 100% of all software out there. Even if it isn't the fastest, most stable, etc., it is still the compatability king. Look for any program for the Mac, and you'll find at least 10 PC versions of the same type, all released months earlier.
For this reason, people use PCs. If software companies decide to release good software in numbers for the Mac within a week of when the PC version comes out, people might consider switching. but until then, the PC is the only choice for general use.
Dude, installing software in linux is just as easy as installing it in but linux exe files have no extension. I was almost able to install firefox in linux but it froze because I only had like 128MB of RAM but if I booted my whole pc to that, it would be installed. That's different Mozilla pre-compiles. Other software you download might have to be compiled. You'll need like 3 progs to sucessfully compile it.
When you download a piece of software in Windows, installation is generally straightforward. With Linux, you might be stuck with having to compile the code. Very few computer users are willing to do that.

Yeah it isn't as great as the normal Mac OS X Panther.

MacOSX is better than Windows XP. X is Unix based, while Windows is still based on Dos.Pwn3d, yeah your right Windows is DOS-based while others are UNIX-based.

PCs rock you can run more os'es on it and you can run OS X on it with PearPC.

Can I ask you one thing? To quit making up stupid crap, and use a Mac that is running OS X? Then you can be viewed as a somewhat intelligent debater. Besides, there's a big chance that that PC isn't even legal.
I'm not one to debate on computers, but I found this funny. I found this on the Peanuts website. This isn't Windows XP vs Mac OS X. BTW just because I showed compared a high quality pc to a normal iMac doesn't mean Macs suck though that iMac wasn't that great and it cost $600 more. I was just stating that PCs are cheaper not that macs sucks. Macs are great computers but they are overpriced.
To download wallpaper to your computer desktop:
For Windows users:
1. Click on the resolution that your monitor is set at. (If your resolution isn't shown, choose the closest size.) A new page will appear with just the wallpaper image.
2. Right click on the image, and a menu will appear.
3. Choose "set as wallpaper."
For Macintosh users:
1. Click on the resolution that your monitor is set at. (If your resolution isn't shown, choose the closest size.) A new page will appear with just the wallpaper image.
2. Move your cursor over the wallpaper image, hold your mouse button down until you see a menu and select "Save This Image As."
3. In the dialog box that pops up, choose where you'd like to save the image (we suggest your desktop for now).
4. Go inside your apple menu to control panel, and select "appearance."
5. In appearance, select Desktop, then click "place picture."
6. Select the wallpaper file you saved and click "choose." Select "position automatically."
7. Click "set desktop," close the window, and you're done!
I like the three steps much better. :P

Macs are really too expensive to buy. Otherwise, I might try one out. Our local Best Buy doesn't even have 1 mac in their whole store. I went yesterday and looked around for one.Windows itself is about $300 though you can get it pre-installed on some computers.
Windows are just the right price range if you are looking for a computer at all. Mac probably has the better programs but Windows has more of them

The Kernel is like the heart of the OS and a kernel patch just adds stuff to the kernel. Anyways WinXP Pro 64 has the same kernel as Windows 2003.
You mean kernel panics? I've had them in Linux before.
Kernel panics are horrible, I had one in Mandrake once and had them alot in MEPIS.Kernel panics in OS X just make, need to have the Mac Restarted most of the time.

Funny...I had to re-boot windows barley out of the box. I still had shrink wrap on some of the devices. With My Mac I booted it up and it was ready to go no error messages. Plus, Macs arent idiot proff. No computer is, really. I dont have to have 6 different spyware programs on my mac. No virus protection. Why? Out of the box BRAND NEW. And I've downloaded quite a bit of spyware protection. Mac doesnt need any. Nor does it need any anti virus programs. It was a job keeping my pc in tip-top shape. This is a lot easier. With a dock, I dont have icons clogging up my desktop, either. It's rather nice. It has its drawbacks. After you close a program you have to quit by hitting Apple->Q or go up to the menu and hit quit in the program drop box to get it to fully quit. On the upside, if I accidentally close the box the program is still open. If I hit "F11" it'll move the current window I'm working on over to the side so I can access my desktop. It's a rather nice machine...Glad to read you enjoy your Mac. I like it too, the bottem screen is nice, it stores all the programs I use and yet it doesn't clog up my desktop with icons like windows would. I use Limewire and I have no problems with spyware and virus's.

The first quote you said that macs hardly get viruses but then the second quote you said you dont need a virus program for macs. How can that be? :OBecause Mac's don't really have that many virues writen for them. There is only about 50 virius's for Macs and the last one was mad in 2000 before OS X.

She said that you dont need a virus program so that basically means you'll be keeping the virus on the Mac a long time.QuoteThe first quote you said that macs hardly get viruses but then the second quote you said you dont need a virus program for macs. A Ha you admit Windows isn't perfect! And what do you expect Microsoft tries to get products out as soon as possialbe even if that means releasing a buggy OS. Although I admit the Mac OS 10.0 wasn't that stable, and was picky. But it was a whole new OS.QuoteQuoteThe first quote you said that macs hardly get viruses but then the second quote you said you dont need a virus program for macs. because Macs aren't nearly as popular as Windows (although I will admit Windows is coded worse).
Is Tiger unstable? Or was this another version of OSX?Another verson of OS X. Tiger is the most recent verson I'm talking about OS 10.0, Tiger is OS 10.4, yearly OS X updates are done by 10.x.

Just out of curiosity, but, are you in the microsoft beta program? if your not you should reserve judgement.Until MS, builds Windows with a Unix Kernal at it's core, it's still going to have many exploits. Remember Bill Gates challeneged hackers to hack into 2000 and they did, in under a day.
You have to remember that XP is an extention of the old NT kernel. Vista is built with a brand new kernel that will seriously reduce the exploits found in the XP kernel.
I don't like Macs at all, and when we were at primary school, they were the ones we had to use.Our teachers kept saying:"Now, if you've listened properly, there will be no error signs or any problems. But even me, a BoffGoth, kept getting all the errors that you expect of a Mac.All the kids started laughing when the error sign came up, and a funny robot woman's voice went:"Droo srhoo, shrrooo droo droo srhddooo drshshooo."Primary schools always use seriosly outdated mac operating systems. Use an OSX and then see.
And Macs have that annoying apple thing everywhere.

It was pinned anyway. Didn't this die when Apple switched to Intel?
I'm posting from the iBook I got. My older brother upgraded to a MacBook, so he gave me his iBook G3. Now all I need is OS X 10.4 :PWhat happened to you saying you'd never have a mac?
I have Windows Vista. it sucks cuz it has tons of glitches they didn't work out before putting it on the market, and tons of people are switching back to Windows XP. Mine had a huge internet problem and i just got it to work again...USER ERROR
Honestly, I don't see much use for MacOS X. MacOS X is supposedly better for multimedia and Windows is supposedly better for gaming. You can't do hard-core gaming in MacOS X but you can do hard-core video editing and graphics in Windows Vista just as good as you can with MacOS X using Adobe CS3. Also, Encoding any tv or dvd rips is a lot better on Windows Vista than MacOS X or Linux. In reality, you can do just about anything on Windows Vista except for a decent server which is where Linux comes in with MythTv, NAS, and a bunch of other neat server stuff.I went the PC route with my most recent computer purchase for one reason... price. MacBooks are way over priced for what they got, if I'm paying $1300 for a new laptop it better have ATI or Nvida seeing as my $750 HP has Nvidia. And it better have a 400GB HDD, and 4gb of ram, and so much else too.
PS: MacOS X has issues too, the fact that my laptop won't take MacOS X Leopard and it meets the minimum requirements for it. Apple hardware is pure garbage and I got MacOS X on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 for around 600 bucks and it outperforms the most expensive iMac.
lulz @ macs being 2000 and still people complain about it when they use it
