hey as most of you know our computer broke. my familys searching today at best buy. what do you reccomend? *try not to flame anyone elses opinions because i just want to hear whats the best* also we dont want to spend a lot of money.
-
If you're too lazy to build your own, an hp computer will do well.
BTW, the next comp I plan to get will have:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7-S2 Mobo
ATI Radeon 9600 XT
Maxtor 160GB Hard Drive
512MB Crucial PC3200
Lite-On DVD-ROM and CD-RW
Samsung 3.5 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Antec SX600II Case
Linksys Wireless Card
Microsoft Keyboard
Microsoft IntelliMouse 3.0 Wireless Mouse
Windows XP Pro (Maybe with a dual-boot to Mandrake Linux)
-
No way dont get HP theyll rip you off
And how is the family comp broken?
you can try a dell :glare: yet if you are ignorant it will crash a lot
well if u want a hp get it without monitor they are static
-
Nicole, get a Compaq if you can. They are the best for the price. We've had a compaq for six or eight months now and its never had any errors.
-

Dude, hp dosen't rip you off. But you are right with the monitor thing.
-
I say go Dell. They are cheap.
-
It doesn't matter if you get HP, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, or anything else. If it has Windows, you're bound to have problems. But I'm sure you're gonna get that anyway, so I recommend getting something reliable from Sony.
-
Uhhh dude dont say that no probs here and i have XP
Anyhow get whatever is the best
-
Just try to find one...a fast one...with about 80GB or more
-
Eww... Sony computers...
I'd say a Dell.
-
Dell or emachines
-
I'd say Compaq...or any other HP computer. It's worked fine for me.
-
Anything but Sony
-
Fine then. Get a Mac. Then you won't have to worry about getting a new computer again.
-
Or buying anything else.
-
Yeah... or that.
-
I bet some macs have problems O_o;;
-

Yeah, like mine.
-
Yeah. How old is it again?
-

Rip off and yet he dont want to spend alot of money
-
How is something that's good and cheap at the same time a "rip off?"
-

A mac unit is not good not cheap so rip off
-
Yeah. How old is it again?
4 1/2 years, but from your post Get a Mac. Then you won't have to worry about getting a new computer again.
When it was 3 years old I wanted a new computer. It's had so many errors it's not even funny.
-
Ugh. If you bring this up in another topic, you can expect a suspension.
-
How about u get someone to build one 4 u
-
Macs are just too expensive...get something around $400 - $1200
-
No one understands...
-
We do...they just too dang expensive
-
For too little
-
No one seems to have heard me. It's a 5 day suspension if you keep it up.
-
My opinion on buying one:
Dont get too expensive...$1500 or more is too expensive...
Emachines is around $500 for 80gb and its a great use for a comp

Sorry I almost puked when I read your post because i thought i was banned
-
Spongemonkey, what price range of a computer are you looking for?
/me brings thread back on topic...
At Best Buy, this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmprd19700050001&skuId=999919600050001&productCategoryId=cat01173&type=product) is a decent computer + monitor + printer for $800.
Of course, building your own will get you the best price/performance, but I don't recommend doing that unless you know a lot about computers. If you're willing to shop online, there are often better deals than what you can find at Best Buy.
Also, patrick101, I have a few suggestions. Instead of the 5700LE, you should go for the 9600xt. I recommend the Abit NF7-S2 motherboard. Instead of 3 256mb sticks of kingston, you can get 2 512 sticks of some other brand. Or just get one 512 stick now, and another stick later if you need it. The NF7-S2 has excellent onboard sound, so buying a sound card wouldnt be necessary.

Saves prossesor speed
-
I got this one for $499 + tax...80GB...printer...2.0ghz
-
I'm about to build a $250 computer, but I already have most of the parts.
The computer that I helped Sirbors build was pretty amazing.
1700+
Msi KT4-VL
768mb pc2100
CD-RW
160gb
Geforce MX4000
It ended up costing around $200.
-
160gb? I would think that would make the computer slower than it usually is O_o;;
-
Umm, no. Larger does not equal slower. It's a 7200rpm.
-
ssj, you could have a 400 gb hard drive and it would still go fast if you have enough memory and processor speed.
-
He didnt say any rpm so i assumed that it would be slow O_o;;
-
dude get a dell
-
dude get a dell
Nooo! I've had way too many bad experiences with Dell, and I've never even owned one.
-
Yeah, stay away from Dells...
-
Hmm... Dells are cheap, but I'd go with a Compaq then.
-

-
i think they are looking at dells. i dont know.
Do NOT get a Dell. My grandma had a dell custom built. It's about a year old now and it won't stay on. They are very cheaply made. I would highly suggest not buying a dell.
-
Custom built...different from actually purchased one...but its true. Get an Emachines...they are good
-

LCDs may not be better than actual monitors but they dont take up as much room

-
