Post by: spongemonkey13 on July 31, 2004, 10:37:49 am: hey as most of you know our computer broke. my familys searching today at best buy. what do you reccomend? *try not to flame anyone elses opinions because i just want to hear whats the best* also we dont want to spend a lot of money.

Dont get too expensive...$1500 or more is too expensive...

Emachines is around $500 for 80gb and its a great use for a comp

At Best Buy, this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmprd19700050001&skuId=999919600050001&productCategoryId=cat01173&type=product) is a decent computer + monitor + printer for $800.

Of course, building your own will get you the best price/performance, but I don't recommend doing that unless you know a lot about computers. If you're willing to shop online, there are often better deals than what you can find at Best Buy.

Also, patrick101, I have a few suggestions. Instead of the 5700LE, you should go for the 9600xt. I recommend the Abit NF7-S2 motherboard. Instead of 3 256mb sticks of kingston, you can get 2 512 sticks of some other brand. Or just get one 512 stick now, and another stick later if you need it. The NF7-S2 has excellent onboard sound, so buying a sound card wouldnt be necessary.

It ended up costing around $200.

Do NOT get a Dell. My grandma had a dell custom built. It's about a year old now and it won't stay on. They are very cheaply made. I would highly suggest not buying a dell.
