It IS illegal. And anyone sharing or taking doesn't have permission. No one has permission. That's the fun of downloading: you can break the law and not get caught.

Actually, some artists do release a song or two that you can download from there site.
I am not afraid of getting caught... I am just afraid of catching viruses.

Heh, if the cops ever come just stick a bunch of magnets on your CPU
XD

hmmmmm 500 dollar fee, 1000 dollar compy. paying fee>ruining compy.

Ditto.
But I joined one of those MP3 sites where you pay for them...and they're official.
It's a good site, I've had no problem with it...and the good thing is...it's perfectly LEGAL.
Downloading without paying is illigal.
hmmmmm 500 dollar fee

...500 dollar fee? What? It must be more than that for pirating music...
Most musicians are not hurt by downloading music, it's the record executives who get all the money. Musicians get maybe 1% of each CD sold. I say boycot the RIAA, an organization of greed.

That reminds of a topic we had a while ago... and a post I made in that topic.
Ah, there are two. this (http://www.spongezone.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1724&hl=riaa) and this (http://www.spongezone.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=3288&hl=riaa).
Some of that is outdated, but most of it holds true.
In Canada we're already paying fees in our taxes that help pay for the creation of CDs, I believe, or something along those lines, so we're already paying artists for trying to sell their music in our country. Therefore, it is not illegal, in Canada, to download music. Programs like Photoshop and Word are definitely illegal to download, though.

I'm wondering for the philippines..... Does anyone know a place where they record ALL the laws worldwide?

only if that person who is giving the song away doesn't have permission

Um, it's already illegal, just in case you haven't noticed.

Not if the singer/band is doing it on their website

True, but it's not like the US really enforces copyright law online. Almost all of the cases involving piracy have been civil, not criminal.

Shut up now. -.-
The RIAA can sue people, but they catch a very small percentage of people who download music. And they always sue the last kind of people who deserve to be sued, they sue the poor, teenagers, and college students. I haven't heard any story's of a rich person being sued for downloading music.

Because rich people can afford overpriced music.

Yeah that's true, and the other part is the rich kids at my school are corporate whores. The RIAA loves corporate whores, because they buy the crappy music they push.
Why buy the music when I can get it free off of LimeWire? If I get/got caught I'd say it was Lime Wire's fault. They let me do it. :P

When you get LimeWiere you have to agree not to download anything "illegal"
Therefore it isnt the fault of LimeWire.

Like IceFox said, just because you can use it for illegal purposes doesnt mean its intended. Look at a the VCR, you can pirate movies using them, yet they are illegal. Google or any search engine is a prime example, with a few keywords, I could pull up millions of serial numbers, yet it isnt illegal.
