Title: Bearshare or limewire
Post by: King Neptune on April 28, 2006, 09:00:40 am
So I'm thinking about getting either limewire or bearshare.

BUT I don't know which one.

Which one do you guys like better?

I like Bearshare, but it seemed to be a bit slower than Limewire. I'll have to download it again and then test it out...

I was always a big fan of bearshare. If a college blocks filesharing, they usually don't block in-campus sharing with limewire.

I don't use either.  I try to be a little more umm... legal by paying $30.  But I've never seen Limewire, my friend has BearShare, so I'll say Bearshare.

If your paying money for a p2p client your getting royaly ripped off. Not only do the majority of p2p apps connect to one of a few major networks, but that money does not in any way impact the fact that downloading copyrighted material can result in lawsuits in excess of $25,000. All your doing is paying for a client that may be worse than some of the free ones, and for access to a network full of virii and spyware.

to the OP, i would advise you against using either of those or any other filesharing program. while a very small few like BitTorrent have legitimate uses, most are used almost exclusively for the spreading of files, music, and other copyrighted materials. The RIAA is suing thousands upon thousands of people, and do you want to try and explain to your parents why they owe the RIAA several thousand dollars?

Bittorrent goes really slow when I use it.

I prefer uTorrent. Super lightweight. And faster.

File sharing disgusts me. You'd never see me downloading things on LimeWire. Because LimeWire is illegial... I definitely don't use LimeWire, and I absolutely don't love LimeWire at all... Because LimeWire is illegial, and saying that I used LimeWire would be bad news.

Actually, uTorrent is BitTorrent. It uses the BitTorrent protocol. I'm guessing you mean the original BitTorrent program by Bram Cohen, but that shouldn't take up a lot of CPU usage or RAM...

I use IRC, BitTorrent and Frostwire. Direct downloads, too, whenever available.

Yes, that is what I assumed. The slang is torrents, since the file extension is .torrent

Does Soulseek use leafnodes?

Heh. Yea.  I guess that obsoletes the poll.  Anyway bittorrent>other p2p protocols, especially using uTorrent as a client.

uTorrent is an amazing client, but it went downhill after 1.2 when people wanted stupid features added.
