Title: Alimony?
Post by: carterhawk on April 30, 2006, 08:08:03 pm
Simple question, should a person have to pay for past *relations* with another person? The two people have seperated, no longer together, not in any way connected or interacting, yet one person has to pay the other person money every single month. sometimes for the rest of their lives, sometimes for just a year. It would be like me selling a car, and then still being required to pay for the registration, gas, and insurance.I dont own it, i dont drive it, i dont get to enjoy it, and yet im still required to pay for it? what kind of sense does that make?

I think it depends on the situation. If a woman brings on the divorce, and it's not because of abuse, then the man shouldn't have to pay it.

what if hte man wants the divorce? im trying to keep this gender neutral, even though its usualy the men who get screwed in these situations.

i think the only time a man should have to pay sumthin to his ex is if she has to raise their kids on her own.

lol, holy hell, i used that as the only example in which i think a man should have to pay his ex money...in other words, i pretty much disagree with alimony, but even when we agree, you gotta argue huh?

I don't agree with alimony unless the woman was in an abusive relationship.  Otherwise, no.  The man should keep his own money.  He worked hard to get it.

Men never get alimony from women... so why should women get it from men? It's pretty absurd really... and the only way alimony usually happens is if the husband made a significant amount more of money then the women did or if she totally relied on him for financial support.

I don't even think that exists over here in the UK.....divorce damages the children in a family. They should get all the money! :p

Alimony is wrong, a man shouldn't have to pay his ex money just because of a failed marriage.

Thats the situation in my household. My mom and my stepdad are no longer together, but I am not over exaderating when I say he pays for everything. The house payments, the horses, all our other hobbies, food, bills, ect ect.

A lot of women/men rely on their spouse for financial support. I don't disagree with it as long as it is kept within reason. If it is for a short period of time while their ex husband/wife gets back on their feet then thats fine. Then again, there are certain situations such as my mom and her exhusband that it seems very unfair to him. I mean, I understand having to pay for our basic requirments, but feeding ten horses... baha. That is a bit over board.
