A poll on televison had a large amount of people saying that they would vote for a female for president. What about you, and what are your views on this?
I would.
-
I'd vote for a female if I truly thought she was better than the other candidates...
-
If it were Hilary Clinton, hell yeah.
-
See the people who voted no i would consider a little sexist. A female can do just as good, if not better a job then a male.
-
When I think Female President I think of Hillary. She was practically president when Bill was.
-
1. Hillary Clinton did not get involved in politics until 2000.
2. Clinton was a productive president, and to say his wife did all the work for him is absurd.

Wow. I agree with you on something.
SHOCKER.
But yeah...I hate when people make it look like Hillary was the president. :P

Yes, I would vote for a female president. There should be one right now. Change is good...
-
Here is a question, if there were two candidates one male and one female, both gave the same promises, had similar backgrounds, had similar aproaches to the public and the same kind of ambitions. Who would you vote for? Why?

I totally agree with you on this.

The woman, for historic value.
And I totally agree with you as well. We do need some change, and every female I have talked to said they would vote for a female, because females need to show America that they are just as good, if not better than a man.
Our history teacher is like 60 somethin and he wants a woman to become president. He said that females are still getting paid less for the exact same job as a man, and men are picked first.
He said this country needs to have equality in EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. I agree with him.
-
With matters like these, isn't it true that the reason behind your choice is slightly clouded?
You say you will vote for a female leader before they even tell you what they plan to do, is it because you think a female is intrinsically better than a male?
Is it because you fear that if you don't choose a female as your leader you will be categorized as sexist by those around you?
Or is it just because you think it is their 'turn' to run the country?
Are any of those good reasons to base your decision in who your leader should be?
-

Comunism sucks. Look at China and Soviet Russia. Only 1 is still alive...
Cuba and Tibet are good examples too.

Comunism sucks. Look at China and Soviet Russia. Only 1 is still alive...
Cuba and Tibet are good examples too.
The problem with that theory is that the people who led the Chinese, Russian and Cuban revolution were corrupted by power. Socialism has to have a compatible kind of government, like democracy. A capitalist totalitarianism is just as bad as a communist one. I don't think any nation has been truly Marxist.
But, this is completely off-topic. So... is Hillary the only female president people can think of for next president? Is she really that good a senator?

Oh no! Not another Republican!
-
Yes another Republican. Hillary would be the WORST female president. My blood tells me so.
-
To be quite honest, Hilary would be a pretty bad president for a lot of reasons
-
I never said she would be a good president.
Republicans should nominate McCain.
-
Hilary is a very intellegent lady. I think she would do an awesome job. Considering she did many things while being the first lady of Bill. Plus, Bill was a great President, even though not a very good husband...

Intelligence doesn't mean ability. I can be the smartest guy in the world (never gonna happen) and still have crappy instincts and lack of common-know-how. She is pretty out of the loop on a lot of smaller issues. She has her standing on them - but she is very misinformed.

No I think she should not be a president.

I just think that she could have the capability to be as clueless/stupid as our current prez. She is very misinformed on alot of stuff...

She's still a woman though... which means she isn't getting my vote. :P

I knew this would happen.

That's why we did it!
In the next election, I will only vote for a woman.
-
and, if his views stay mostly the same, i'm voting obama...even if i write him in...
-
Personally, no, I would not vote for a female president... why? I am not sexist, no... but it is for the pure and simple fact that most women are not emotionally capable of handling the job. Mentally capable? Yes... Physically capable? Yes... Emotionally capable? Not usually... however if a female president does get elected, then I just hope they do a better job then Bush did. lol.

They have to be the sour apple ones though... the mint ones are nasty X [

ORANGE FTW!!!
or hell, just get mentos...cause mentos are def. FTW......
-
I would vote for a female president if she knew what she was doing. I don't like Hilary Clinton because of her stances on various issues. As far as '08 Democrat Nominations go, Barrack Obama is my favorite. He sees exactly what the current administration is doing wrong.

I wouldn't vote McCain, personally.
Guiliani would probably be the smartest route, but I don't see it happening.

I remember someone saying that there was a big reason why he wouldn't be picked....but i can't remember why...i think MSNBC said it...

The reason why he woudn't be picked is because he is too liberal for the republicans.
-
yep...that's it :P
-
Eh. I am pretty liberal on environment issues. But for money, I am conservative. =p
-
Does someone have a list of the big issues atm? I'm interested on how we all view em :P
But maybe we should stop hijacking other people's threads first :)
Abortion
The War Thingie
Stem Cells
Education
Social Security
Gays (in general)
Boogers
-
I side with the left on everything, except abortion. I mean, I'm against it, but I don't think it should be banned. The government shouldn't make decisions for a woman.

That's the same for me, but I don't believe marijuana should be legalized. That's not a democrat thing, it's more a lefty-thing.
-
I don't know my left from my right :P
My stances:
Abortion - Let the women decide
The War Thingie - gtfo
Stem Cells - Don't make bills that limit the GOOD research (a more recent thing), or the research on stem cells that'll be destroyed anyways.
Education - Get it workin good, make everyone happy.
Social Security - Do something smarter than I can think up.
Gays (in general) - let em do whatever they want. Legal ownership of a child is slightly messed up tho...
Boogers - Yea, get em out of office :)
-
Yep, but not Hilary Clinton. She changes what she wants to do for a certain crowd for god's sake!
-

Woah wait just a second... what do you mean by that exactly, before I completely fly off the handle?
-
Means that he agrees with gay marriage and everything else of the like...Doesn't quite agree with gay couples adopting kids...Unless I read it wrong.
-
Well he better be prepared to back that up then, if that is what he does mean, because I find that a quite offensive remark.
-

Gays should be aloud to adopt children.

Thank you, Dave =)

Nobody told me yall were talkin bout me :/
My remark came after reading a news story where a lesbian couple decided they wanted to adopt a kid. 1 week into the adoption, the kid calls the agency saying that she's being forced to whore herself out infront of the house.
And the second half of the article was about 2 guys that would adopt little boys just to molest them.
Maybe it was the article that made me reply like that, but I see no problem with having a gay couple adopt children. I just think that homelife might be a little more awkward and that a checkup/survey or something should be in place at certain time periods after the adoption.
It's nothing against gay couples to do this...as someone who grew up his first 7 years of his life without a father and with a (then) stay at home mother, it is very much different than how my younger brother is currently growing up, or how my friends grew up.
When I said that it's "slightly messed up", I meant that these guys had better be in it for the long haul.
-
I would vote for a woman but it would have to be a cold day in H*** before I vote for hilary clinton.
-
"My remark came after reading a news story where a lesbian couple decided they wanted to adopt a kid. 1 week into the adoption, the kid calls the agency saying that she's being forced to whore herself out infront of the house."
Do you know how many straight couples have done that to their kids? One of my exes used to be whored out by her mother and her mother was straight. In fact one of the worst child abuse cases in history was a STRAIGHT COUPLE. Ever hear of David Pelzer? A Child Called It? His Mother wasn't a lesbian... it's funny how you can read about a few instances were gay couple were abusive to their children and base that as a reason to not let them adopt. If you are going to go by that then ban adoption all-together.
"And the second half of the article was about 2 guys that would adopt little boys just to molest them."
Yeah? Well I saw a story of a STRAIGHT man who adopted a small child from Russia just so she could be his sex slave. The poor girl never went to school, had friends, anything. The poor girl never even hit puberty. He starved her so she would stay young forever in a way. Do you have any idea how many straight couples adopt children for THAT specific reason?
"Maybe it was the article that made me reply like that, but I see no problem with having a gay couple adopt children. I just think that homelife might be a little more awkward and that a checkup/survey or something should be in place at certain time periods after the adoption."
Society tries to make it awkward, but in all reality if you grew up with Two Mothers or Two Fathers you wouldn't know any different. It would be completely normal to you. To them growing up with a Mom and Dad might seem awkward. And surveys and checkups should be in place for ALL adopted children, not just those with same sex parents.
"It's nothing against gay couples to do this...as someone who grew up his first 7 years of his life without a father and with a (then) stay at home mother, it is very much different than how my younger brother is currently growing up, or how my friends grew up."
I grew up with an abusive stepfather that treated my Mom and I like absolute dolphin noise DIRT may I add. He told me I was worthless growing up. I would have given anything to get away from that when I was little. That was no way to live. I would rather live with a happy gay couple rather than a miserable straight couple.
"When I said that it's "slightly messed up", I meant that these guys had better be in it for the long haul."
Adopting children is a huge descision for everyone. Everyone had better be in it for the long haul. Don't single out gay parents to these rules. They need to be applied to straight parents as well as gay parents.
-
You're looking at it from your perspective of speech too much :(
I was just trying to convey that the shock-and-awe article messed my day up, and that's why I typed that initally. I DON'T think that at all right now.
When I mentioned the checking up, that was more nonsense from the article. Apparently, the one gay couple found a law in their state saying that adoption checkups were only needed for "a husband and wife union", so they abused their kid. I know that all adopted kids get checked upon and I expect it.
Your younger years were at an extreme...I'm trying to say that a gay couple's kid would ideally have it at the same level that mine was at....slightly skewed, but still a family.
"Being in it for the long haul" should definently be applied to everyone. I'm just reinforcing that because it's a gay adopting couple, they're doubly expected to be in it for the long haul (not sure why, but that seems to be the case).
-
I was just clearing a few things up is all.
Sometimes I get intense when I debate. Nothing personal towards you. I think you're a pretty swell guy actually. Heh =)

Whenever I come to a decision on a moral topic I remember this quote:
"Any society that would give up a little bit of liberty for a little bit of security deserves neither and will lose both."
I believe it can be applied to anything.

Well, living in Ireland... I've already had two female presidents... And the country's doing well, so I suppose I would. But only if I feel I agree with what the.... You get the idea.
-
If a female presidential candidate came up that I thought was the best for the job I would vote for her. Hilary scares me though, so she won't get my vote. I know Germany's new PM is a woman. I haven't heard of how she is doing there yet, but as long as they can run the country well, why not a woman president?
