Title: Colleges
Post by: RandomDude18 on August 08, 2007, 12:58:10 am
Anyone who's still in high school thinking about college yet? I'm deciding on whether or not to go to ITT Tech or UCF.

I'm going to Oakland Community College for 2 years, then I'm transferring to Michigan State.

Go to UCF.  State schools are almost always better than tech schools like ITT or DeVry.  Rather than learning specifics that you'll need to get a job in one specific industry, you'll generally get a pretty well rounded education.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. I recently had a tour at ITT Tech at the Lake Mary Campus, it was alright but  seemed ridiculously small for a college, although the refreshments were good. Another + for UCF is that it takes half as long to get there and it's in Orlando. Here's the ITT Tech pics.

That's where I'm going. It's right in the middle of downtown Charleston. I can't wait.

We have an ITT Tech here.  My dad went there a youngster for electronic engineering. :)

They also have supposedly good programming classes.

I'm going to Florida International University in Miami. Couldn't be happier.

Now, I'm deciding if I want to go into Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

You should probably avoid IT.  You can major in CS and still get an IT job.

Good idea Cmonkey, Isn't Computer Science for anything hardware/software, networking, and programming related?

Computer Science is pretty broad, but generally it involves any of the theory and practice behind computing.  Programming falls closer to Software Engineering, which is typically part of Computer Science.  Networking might be closer to IT.  Circuit/system/IC design falls under Computer Engineering.  With CE, you'd end up taking CS classes anyway.  With CS, you probably wouldn't end up in CE classes though.

Yeah, CS is probably what I want then.
