Title: Random Site News
Post by: cmonkey on February 17, 2004, 12:48:31 pm
The domain, SpongeZone.com is going to be expiring next month.  Some fool ordered it a while ago and never put a site there, which is why I had to get SpongeZone.net.  So, should I buy it?  Vote in the poll!

SizzlinSean and mermaidman97007 have been promoted to Global Mods.  So, the forums will be better than ever.

The Admins, Semi-Admins, and Global Mods now have FTP access and the power to post Site News updates. That way the site can be updated when I'm not around.

Couldn't hurt for you to own spongezone.net and .com. I am surprised that Viacom (Nick, MTV Network) only registered spongebob.com and not .net and .org.

I wouldn't buy spongezone.com unless you did what yellowbird suggested. So many people know it as www.spongezone.net that it might be confusing.

By the way. Thanks for making me a mod!

I'm not sure. It may confuse some people with the .net, but others who just think "Sponge Zone" will type in www.spongezone.com into their browser and it won't go here...but then again that does elimnate the stupid people from going here because they haven't discovered Google yet. So, I dunno, I guess you should just leave it.

I've been here since the beginning though I haven't posted as much as others. I'll offer an answer from what I have observed while being here. This is not Spongezone policy. I might be very wrong with what I say. People who are good candidates for being a mod do these things:

1. Follow the rules
2. Don't spam
3. Don't ask to be a mod or semi admin or global mod or admin
4. Don't ask for the password to the Secret Box
5. Don't junk up the forums with advertisments or hoaxes or lies
6. Can do the job
7. Post often and make good posts when they post
8. Can get along with others
9. Know how to recognize when rules are broken and how to deal with it
10. Like being here & can be here often

Or basically, 1. you get chosen by cmonkey or his staff, 2. you get elected when there are mod elections.

You should buy it. I mean there is no point on having this guy do somthing about it when he doen't make a website. You SHOULD. That's why I voted yes.

GONGRATS TO MERMAIDMAN AND SEAN FOR BEING GLOBAL MODS!!!!!

I voted no. I think it should stay the way it is with .net. Many people would probably get confused. But the .com address could get some more hits than .net.

thanks for telling me

but anyway

I dont think people will get confused if you keep .net

maby you can use .com for separet things or as a test page or somthing

Well www.spongezone.com does not have the ring that www.spongezone.net does. It just plain sounds better. So keep it as so OR get both!

It's only because you got used to .net. You'd say the same thing if he wanted to get .net and had .com

If he gets .com, cmonkey can forward the .com to the .net or make it point to the correct name servers for the site. Once the spiders for search engines index the .com it will show up in search results along with the .net. Remember that cmonkey has the .tk too? Well that shows up in search results now. When people click the .tk it brings them to this site. Same principle if he gets the .com. There's no downside to owning both. There is a downside if someone else owns .com and it manages to get better ranking than the .net or .tk. Just look at how bad the spongebob.net site is and how high that site ranks. :glare:

Plus alot of people would natch think to go to a dot-com over a dot-net.

If you ask to be a mod cmonkey delays your chance of being one

will it be more hassle to have a .com aswell as a .net? if so then maby not

or will it be rather easy to contain both? if so then go for it

cmonkey: Won't you have to pay for both if you own both? And that wouldn't work out too great...right?

Eh, I'm just going to buy it.  It's only $8 a year.  I'll probably forward it to www.spongezone.net to make things easier.

That's a terrific idea. I'm always accidentally typing in spongezone.com in my browser instead of .net. ...And I always see that annoying Godaddy logo that says that the site is coming soon. If I were you, I'd forward it to spongezone.net.
