Well I know this isn't religious or political or anything but still, there's been a lot of argument on rap in other forums, and they turned into flaming wars (Most of them). So come here to give a GOOD reason why you like or dislike rap, and let's all debate peacefully, okay children?

Rap...it sucks, the lyrics are bad, it gives bad messages, it promotes bad things, and it is just plain stupid!

No! Maybe HARDCORE RAP. But not all rap is that way. Think about it. Christian's rap, ABOUT GOD! And Yes, some of this is BAD. While Some of it is good! For once, Listen, Listen to the music. Not just hear jibber jabber. listen to the words they speak. I heard in a P - Diddy song, "To my friend who died, that opend up my eyes. Made me see inside.." ABOUT TUPAC! no matter what, they always express their feelings. EVEN if their feeling lets say..."in the mood" They ARE gonna rap about it! Ever heard of a song called "Stan" and "Conscience"? BOTH by Rappers, Eminem, and...well, Eminem, but anyway, they are both rapping about the antics that SHOULDNT go on....

Rap does not appeal to me "It's getting hot in here, so take off all your "sweaters".." Personally, I'd rather listen to lyrics such as "Two hearts that shouldn't talk to each other, become close in a town much like a prison cell." Oh with the double meaning of the song Promises.
Yes, some rap is good, but that good rap is from like ten years ago. Oh, and Eminem is NOT the first white rapper. Vanilla Ice. BLAH!

A) Even if he only had one hit that you know of, don't mean he wasn't a rapper.
B) Heh...Go watch TMNT II and you'll find he had another hit called Ninja Rap.
And I admit, I'm wrong. First real white rappers, were indeed the Beastie Boys. They were around in 1986.
This ain't coming from me, hater of most rap music, this is coming from my brother who is an expert in all types of music, including techno and polka.
Squiddy: Almost all rockstars are druggies. Kurt Cobain. Jim Morrison (okay, so it's alcohol) Jimi Hendrix. Axl Rose. The list goes on.

It's not a very good reason, but I hate the style of new rap. There are some rappers that make good songs sometimes (Eminem), but all the others just really suck, like G-Unit and of the type. The only rap I ever really was a fan of was old-school; the Beastie Boys.

A month ago, I said I hated rap. Since then I matured. Like AppleNick, I can't stand today rap(I like a few songs but still). I don't like gangsta rap. For those who said rap is trash and not poetry, Your just seeing the kind of rap they put on MTV or some other channel. Rap also talks about other good things in life too. I doesn't take a geunis to figure that out.

Canada is the country who is most diverse in cultures. Canada is also the country that uses the internet the most.

But MOST rap is not good. MOST rap is talking about drugs, people getting murdered/commiting suicide, having sex or wanting to, and then it's filled with cussing. This is the majority of most rap and what most rappers rap.
Some people are trying to make rap "good", but it seems impossible. And it probably is.
And squidward400, I KNOW you don't just listen to "good" rap. I know you listen to the real kind of rap, which is bad.
And the lyrics aren't the worst part.
Why is rap considered music anyway? Where's the music? Okay so maybe there might be a couple of musical notes in the chorus, but most of it's just a beat. And they talk the whole thing. Rap is slang for talk or say. So rap is basically... talking. With a beat. "Talking" about sex, drugs, murder, and suicide.
So what happens when Snoop Dogg runs out of rhyming words? He makes a new language. It was already slang enough before, but now you see an "izzle" thrown in random places. And if Lil' Jon's in the song, you might here a couple of "YEEAAH!!"s and "WHHAAT?!"s. Don't forget the cussing.
You call it poetry? I don't see poets saying "Yo !@#$% mah !@#$%^ YEEAAH!! !@#$% What? !@#$ fo' !@# shizzle !@#$izzle dizzle !@#$% with !@#$% the !@#$$%^^ for %^&***" (Don't worry, I put in the symbols)
So is rap advanced poetry? Poetry with a new language and cuss words? Poetry about sex, drugs, murder, and suicide? Poetry by ghetto people with a beat in the background? Seriously, that doesn't sound like music.
I don't care about Kanye West, R. Kelly, Mase, and any other rappers you say rap about "good" stuff. It doesn't matter even if they do. They still cuss, and they're still rapping, which makes them look bad. Since the majority of rap is bad, all rappers look bad.
And don't start with the "If rap is bad, they can make good rap to attract bad people and make them good". That won't happen. Like I've said before, the majority is bad, so the good ones'll just get buried.
And again, I know you listen to bad rap. Most people that listen to rap listen to the majority of rap, the bad kind. Which is basically the real kind, and only kind, no matter what you say.
All I can say is, most of today's generation like rap. It's becoming the new fad, or it already has. I dunno when this'll die, it seems it'll only get worse. I don't care what you say about "good" rap. Believe me, it won't happen, sorry.

I have mixed opinions about Rap. Most of it I can't stand because all of the songs are about the same things. I swear everytime I force myself to listen to a new rap song they all sound the same, they're all about woman, drugs, sex, how rich they are, etc.
But on the other hand there are some pretty good rap bands. Most Old School rap is pretty good like Public Enemy and Run DMC, and, of course, Rapper's Delight by the SugarHill Gang, gotta love that XD I like the Beastie Boys too because they're different than everybody else, they're sort-of punk-rap, if there is such a thing.
