You can also add '/prefetch:1' to the firefox shortcuts, so a shortcut address might look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

This makes it keep Firefox in memory after you load it once, and since I rarely restart my computer, it works well for me.  I can deal with it loading slowly the first time I start it after a reboot. :p

Site News / What happened tonight?
« on: July 10, 2005, 09:13:41 pm »
The site was down for some time tonight as Cmonkey and I moved it from one server to another.  It will reside here for a week, until next Sunday it will be moved back to the old server.  During that week, some extreme changes will be made to the old server to accommodate for expandability.  Everything should be running fine with the exception of the chat, which will not function until the site is moved back to the old server.

The only problem is getting it in pure form.  I know some people at my school who do marijuana and they could not care less about where or who they get it from.  I do not have any interest in marijuana, but for the sake of some of my friends, I wish there was an easy was to get it pure.  Some of the common additives  today are very dangerouse and unhealthy.

The only drug that should be completley legal is Marajauna. When clean, and in a pure form. Having marajauna illigal is like having smoking illigal it is fact that nobody has ever died of a marajauna overdose.. For all the other drugs, those things mess you up big time.
I do not understand why marijuana is ilegal.  Compared to cigarettes, marijuana is so much better for you!  Heck, my DARE instructor in High School said this!  Mariguana (in its pure form) is not in the least addictive.  Smoking is.  That alone makes it much better.  Alchohol also causes something close to 50% of the accidents in the U.S.  Marijuana has not caused ANY in Connecticut (I do not know about other states).  Why is alchohol legal and marijuana not?  Who knows...

Getting on topic, one of my favorite bands, Tool, supposidly does not do drugs.  And Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor just got cleaned up for his newest album and I very much like the work.

Debate Den / What do you think about the usa
« on: June 19, 2005, 09:37:19 pm »
I am an American, and I have some gripes about my own country, namely the current administration, but as a whole, I think America is an excellent place to live.

George Bush has some very controversial views, and I disagree with the majority of them.  For instance, unlike Bush, I think gay marriage is completely fine and should not be banned.  Those in a relationship, whether it is both a man and a women, two men, or two women, should all be able to share the connection and benefits that marriage provides.  I also am not explicitly against abortion.  I believe that it is a choice that should be left up to the women and the circumstances.  For instance, if someone is raped and impregnated, they should have the option to remove themselves of the burden of a child.  I also do not agree with Bush’s reasons for the war.  It does not seem necessary to American security; it is not justified.

I find McDonalds to be a great place to stop once in a while for a quick meal, but I try not to make it a habit.  Why; because I understand the disadvantages of constantly eating fast food.  One thing that very much annoys me about America is the constant lawsuits over pointless items.  People should not be able to sue McDonalds for becoming obese, that is completely their fault.  Along the same tangent, people should not be able to sue Dunkin Donuts for selling hot coffee; did they expect the coffee to be cold?

Now, as a generalization, I can see how TV, movies, and other forms of media could have displayed America as a greedy, fat, lazy group of people, but unless you have come to America and traveled around, you have no basis for your opinion.  I do not want dim-witted actresses as the American icon.  I want people to see the shores of North Carolina and the cities like Boston and the gorgeous and friendly people of Florida.  If American opinion is based on what is seen in Beverly Hills, the views will be superficial and unreal.

America is a wonderful land of opportunity for people of all social groups, classes, religions, races, sexes, etc.  Sure, there are still come corporations that will chose the male over the female for position of CEO only based on sex, but America still allows for extreme freedoms, and corporations like that have become less and less over time.  The American idea is for anyone to be able to come here and speak freely, act freely and reach for their dreams.

Am I saying everyone in America is perfect?  Nope.  I am quite aware of the large number of people who take advantage of the system, those who do not respect and acknowledge their freedoms, etc, but they should not be the stereotype.

Whenever I think that America is a country falling down the tubes I think about everything that is great about this nation and the ability for everyone to go into a voting booth and change our administration.  Right now I just cannot wait for the next one; Bush, good riddance.

I would like to point out, that both the bible and the theory of evolution are theories!  Neither of these opinions can be proven.  Show me any sort of proof on either of them.

This thread was started for people to express their opinions on after life, not to promote your faith by discrediting other people’s opinions with your own.  Please express yourself intelligently and represent your belief by sharing it, but not by forcing others to also follow it.  My opinion is equally valid and you will receive much more respect throughout your life, with friends, a job, or anywhere life takes you, if you learn to understand that.

I, myself, do not believe in the bible as representing the path to a literal Heaven or Hell, but I look at it as a metaphoric representation of how people should act throughout their lives, using good morals and judgment.  It is something that is there to guide, but not to rule over someone’s life.

Anyways, I got a question for you...when you move the server to Gentoo, will it make it faster or something? Whats the difference between the 2?
One of the main differences will be the ability to highly custamize the OS. I will be doing a stage 1 install of Gentoo, so almost everything is controllable. It should also be a bit faster. The biggest reason is just for a reinstall in general. When the server OS was origionally installed, Layered Tech (the company I pay for it) installed Debian through one of their images, and I dislike may of the ways it was settup. It is not currently expandable enough to do anything worthwhile.

With the close of the school year nearing, I though I would update the UnitedSpongeBobers with some information on some of my plans for the near future.  One of the main projects I will be doing is converting this server from Debian 3.1 to Gentoo 2005.0.  This will take place next Sunday (not this Sunday but the one after).  The server will be down all of Sunday!

For the tech savy, I will be moving to an Apache 2 pre-fork install with PHP 5.0.4.

Also, I have some plans to introduce a feature that many of you may really like.  Think <yourname>@unitedspongebob.com.  More info will come after the server OS change.

It seems that someone brought the SpongeZone server to its knees late today when the network was pummeled with packets in what seems to have been a DOS attack.  Anyway, the server is back up and running fine and it was down for a very short amount of time.  More investigation will be put into the cause of the server outage and precautions will be setup to help against such instances from occurring again.

Strange. I don't really see why they made the move.
IBM was having terrible difficulty in reaching the 3GHz mark; the PowerPC architecture also proved to be very hot.  Also, IBM could not supply the number of units Apple wanted.  This was a long time in the coming.

Has anyone actually read the book? Seems like everyone just saw the movie.
I have not.  I only saw the movie because Stanley Kubrick directed it.  I'll look into it though; is the story similar, or quite different?

Computers & Video Games / what's the point of releasing IE7?
« on: June 05, 2005, 08:19:07 am »
Something that IE7 will hopefully correctly implement is the W3C's web standards: link.  It is a very difficult problem  for web developers to write code that is supported correctly under every browser but IE, and causes them to have to write workarounds, or terrible hacks for IE to display the page correctly.
