Site News / SpongeBob in Space?
« on: July 17, 2006, 07:35:23 am »
Apparently not content with conquering the entire planet, SpongeBob has moved out to the final frontier, space.  According to an Associated Press article, a SpongeBob SquarePants doll was among the items launched inside of Bigelow Aerospace's prototype inflatable satellite on Sunday.  Why a SpongeBob doll?  Obviously because he's just that lovable.  Pictures of SpongeBob floating around inside the spacecraft will hopefully be released soon.

The Waste Land / Beta test the new skin
« on: June 19, 2006, 09:21:51 pm »
For the next few days, I'm going to be working on the new forum skin.  You can use it while I'm making it.  It is in Profile, Look and Layout Preferences, Current theme.  It's called CoolBlue, and interestingly enough, there's no blue in it.  Name issues aside, post errors you find in this thread.  Thanks.

Site News / United SpongeBob is now on Simple Machines!
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:25:00 pm »
Well, it wasn't smooth or easy, but here we are.  We are now running Simple Machines Forums.  Things are still a bit out of place at the moment, but I'm working on getting everything back to working condition.  It will probably take a few days.  In the mean time, please feel free to post any problems or suggestions.

Site News / New Episodes, and SpongeBob a Wii Launch Title?
« on: June 02, 2006, 07:57:16 am »
Two new SpongeBob episodes air today, All That Glitters and Wishing You Well, on Nickelodeon at 7:00 PM EST.  If you miss it, there's no need to worry, you can catch it again tomorrow morning at 9:30 EST.

In other news, according to various sources, SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab will be a Wii launch title, supposedly being released October 2nd.  This has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo, but since the game was shown in playable form at E3, there is a good chance this is true.

Computers & Video Games / MAME
« on: May 21, 2006, 06:48:03 pm »
I recently got readdicted to MAME.  I'm going to spend the next week or two building an arcade cabinet specifically to use for it.  Any other MAME users out there?  Also, does anyone have recommendations for games to put on it?

Site News / A spot of news
« on: May 15, 2006, 05:52:11 pm »
Sorry, I haven't been able to update much recently because of school.  However, I'm out tomorrow, so I'll have plenty of free time to get things going again.

With E3 now over, there is some news about the next SpongeBob game, SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab.  According to a press release by its publisher, THQ, the game is "expected for PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo GameCube®, Nintendo Revolution, Game Boy® Advance, Nintendo DS™ and Windows PC this fall".  We're seeing the beginning of what will probably be a long running trend.  While the game is coming out on the usual consoles, the version for Wii (Revolution), will make full use of it's unique controller, which will no doubt make for an entirely different gameplay experience from the rest of the ports.  There is some video footage of the game at the THQ E3 page.

In other news, happy 19th birthday to Elizabeth Rose, one of our wonderful forum moderators.

Site News / In keeping with tradition, happy birthday to us!
« on: April 10, 2006, 09:58:41 pm »
In keeping with tradition, I completely forgot about United SpongeBob's (the Sponge Zone part of it anyway) 4th birthday, which occured on April 7th.  I've been insanely busy with schoolwork and other business, but believe me, I'll put up something great (and late) as soon as I can.

Site News / United SpongeBob Press Release
« on: April 01, 2006, 08:58:38 am »
United SpongeBob is proud to announce that it has purchased a rival SpongeBob Fan Site, SBMania, for an undisclosed sum.  Cmonkey was quoted as saying, "World Domination doesn't come cheap, but I had to buy them out some time."  The SBMania staff was unavailable for comment, as the windows on their new Bentley were rolled up.  Cmonkey announced the plan for World Domination at a United SpongeBob shareholder meeting last week, during which he also announced that all United SpongeBob staff members must convert to the Church of Scientology (bless the holy Xenu and his Thetans) or be fired.

EDIT: Yea, nevermind.  The check bounced, so SBMania is going back to normal.  Forget Scientology too, I got kicked out for making fun of Tom Cruise.

Site News / United SpongeBob Chat Works (Again)
« on: March 25, 2006, 09:31:34 am »
For possibly the hundredth time, the United SpongeBob Chat has been fixed, and now works again.  So feel free to head on in and chat it up.  I'm planning on putting a Trivia bot back in as soon as I can find the old questions file.

In other news, IGN has reviewed SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Avenger for PSP, and found that "The world of SpongeBob has been ported to the PSP well graphically, but the action that takes place inside of it is only decent for the hardcore fans who want their SpongeBob fix no matter what."  Will there ever be a good SpongeBob video game?

Computers & Video Games / Oblivion, anyone?
« on: March 23, 2006, 10:05:18 am »
I spent two hours on Tuesday trying to find the game, and I ended up getting the last one they had at Best Buy.  I must say, the game is absolutely fantastically magical... except that my fairly high end 6 month old computer struggles to run it at my monitor's default resolution.  Regardless, the game is everything that Morrowind was and more.  All of the weaknesses (crappy AI, bad combat system, so-so graphics) of that game have been fixed, and the playable world is even larger than before.  Any other Oblivion addicts out there?

Site News / SpongeBob taking over the world?
« on: March 06, 2006, 06:40:43 am »
What do Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Hitler, and SpongeBob all have in common?  They all tried to take over the world.  Who would have thought that the only successful one did not have a million man army, or an armada of battleships, or a ministry of propaganda, but square pants?

According to a Viacom press release, after only four weeks on the air, SpongeBob has become the number one cartoon in China, the most populous nation on earth.

Interestingly enough, this article states that shows combining live action and animation are currently banned in China.  Hopefully no members of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television notice the short live action clips in episodes like Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy or the Christmas special.
