Site News / SpongeBob Haiku Contest Results!
« on: November 15, 2005, 05:56:48 pm »
After days, well... minutes, of deliberation, the mods and admins chose a winner, who will receive SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Album, released today.
Congrats to the Shakespeare of our generation, Garyfan, with the entry:

A snail of few words.
Gary is the quiet one.
His thoughts are unknown.

Some other noteworthy entries were,

jesusofsuburbia:

Life under the sea.
A thousand of adventures;
One story to tell.

sweetkid:

He's yellow and square
I'd follow him anywhere
He's got that girl flair

and Kenny Blankenship -_-:

SpongeBob is quite cool.
Really really really cool.
Yep... SpongeBob is cool.

Tonight at 8:00 PM EST, during a 3 hour SpongeBob marathon, the Have You Seen This Snail? (a.k.a. Where's Gary?) special will air on Nick.

Also, make sure you get your SpongeBob haiku entered into the USB haiku contest by midnight tonight.

Looks like Nick isn't giving up on SpongeBob any time soon (with $4 billion in retail sales alone, that makes sense).

According to an Associated Press news release, season 5 will consist of 20 episodes airing from 2006 until 2007, bringing the total to 100 episodes of Spongey goodness.

Site News / SpongeBob Haiku Contest
« on: November 04, 2005, 06:08:20 pm »
Starting this instant, United SpongeBob is having a SpongeBob haiku contest.  So break out your creative writing talents or Japanese poets and get to it!  The rules are:

1.  We're following the standard Haiku rules.  5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third.  No more, no less.  If you can't count out the right number, you are disqualified, and may god have mercy on your soul.

2.  It has to be about SpongeBob.  The show, not necessarily the character.

3.  Each person can post only one haiku.  However, if you decide you don't like yours, you can go back and edit your post as long as it's before the deadline.

4.  Post your entry as a reply to this topic by 11:59 PM EST on November 11th.  That gives you a little over a week.

Write the best one, and you will win SpongeBob SquarePants: The Yellow Album when it is released on the 15th.  The admins and mods will be doing the judging, and the winner will be announced that day.

Also, happy 16th birthday to Hannah, the first SpongeZone moderator.

Site News / SpongeBob on Mac
« on: November 02, 2005, 10:59:27 pm »
For the first time in SpongeBob's long and somewhat fruitful video game career, there will be a version compatible with all of you Apple users out there.  As MacWorld reports, Aspyr is publishing a Mac port of the game, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie.

Does this mark a change in the market, with even low budget, TV/Movie-licensed video games getting ported to Mac?  Or is this simply a too little, too late measure to gain a bit of cash (especially considering that in the time since SpongeBob: The Movie came out for PC, another game, SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, Pants! has already been released).

An interesting and completely unrelated anecdote: AWE Games, the developer of every THQ published SpongeBob game, created Trolls in 1993, which I was addicted to for years.  Go play it, now.

Also, happy 18th birthday to Compbrain/Winbindd.

Site News / United SpongeBob RSS Feed!
« on: October 21, 2005, 12:29:57 pm »
Hey, you, look at that nifty little blue button in the bottom right corner of this post.  That, my Spongerific friends, is a little window into the future.  What is the future, you ask?  Why, RSS, of course.  An RSS feed is a way of delivering content from a site into a neatly organized list that can go just about anywhere.  Anywhere, from My Yahoo pages, to customized Google homepages, to RSS aggregating programs.  All you need to do is enter http://www.spongezone.net/rss.php into anything that asks for an RSS URL, and the ten latest USB news topics will be delivered straight to whatever your RSS aggregator of choice is.

Site News / International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
« on: September 19, 2005, 10:59:42 am »
Arrr, mateys!  Today be the glorious day of the year where ye be talking like a swashbuckling, peg-legged, pirate!  In celebration of what is possibly the best non-denominational, non-commercial holiday out there, here is a guide to all the pirates in SpongeBob that you know and love.

Patchy the Pirate

Patchy the Pirate is a regular feature of half-hour SpongeBob specials, and is generally disliked by most of the SpongeBob watching populace.  Probably because he's annoying and just generally not very funny.  He is played by the otherwise wonderful Tom Kenny.
Pirate Rating:  a $1 DVD in Chinatown

Painty the Pirate

Painty, a painting of a pirate by artist Calvin Liang, voiced by Pat Pinney, with Stephen Hillenburg as it's mouth, opens each glorious episode of SpongeBob by leading the theme song.
Pirate Rating:  Two glass eyes!

The Flying Dutchman

Not only is the Flying Dutchman a pirate, but he's also a ghost!  Ghost pirates are about 10x more piratey than anything else on earth.  He haunts the underwater world  in his mysteriously glowing pirate ship.
Pirate Rating:  Hotter than Johnny Depp

Site News / TOTW (the triumphant return)
« on: August 28, 2005, 07:48:54 pm »
I have some spare time at the moment, so here is the weekly return to weekly Threads Of The Week of this week... week.

Starting things off with a little SpongeBob-related thread, this thread about Squidward's nose was accidently brought back to life recently.  Check out the first few pages of it.  Yep, that's what we were all like two years ago.

Next up, imagine life without SpongeBob... apparently there are a few people living like that.  Scary indeed.

Chongster has another amazing piece of fan art done.  This time it's a cross between SpongeBob and Link.

Jackie-boy started an insightful thread about the favorite parts of one's home state.  If anyone is thinking about moving around America, take a look there first.

And... the count down from 10,000 thread is still nowhere near its goal.  Good luck with that one.

Enjoy the forums, and cya all next week.

Sorry about the lack of updates lately.  It was all in preparation for moving into my dorm at CMU this morning.  That means I might be updating the site less often, but don't worry, it'll stay up as long as I can keep it up.

Finally, uploading is fixed on the forums.  All members can now upload up to 10mb of attachments (pictures, music, whatever).  The PM limit has also been raised to 400 messages from 100 previously.

Edit:  Err, wow.  The forums crossed north of 200,000 posts today too!  Action packed!
