Computers & Video Games / Really Annoying Spyware
« on: July 17, 2005, 09:58:27 pm »
Okay...I haven't had spyware in a while...and now...out of nowhere...I pick up this annoying one that nobody else seems to have.

What happens is it randomly opens a command prompt window which executes something, then closes.  Then...it opens my default browser (which is Firefox right now...I changed it to IE for a second to test...does the same thing) and sends it to a website to download XXXToolbar...

It also seems to be making my computer very unreliable.  I've had to restart at least 4 times in the last 2 hours.

I've also noticed that it seems to create a folder in the root C: called "temp" and an executable called "sd934k"

Also..I'm not sure if this is normal...but there is a file called "hd.bat" in C:

I've run MS Antispyware, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and of course, AVG Antivirus (all up to date) and they find nothing...

Anyone know what to do?

Computers & Video Games / Official Proof that Internet Explorer Sucks
« on: June 29, 2005, 10:33:55 am »
I shall prove, once and for all, that which we have suspected since...forever.

Here is my story of proof:  (Long story here.  The second-to-last paragraph will give the real explanation, the rest is set up.)

June 28,  AD 2005

I get on the computer expecting to be able to play some Runescape.  I go to the game's website and attempt to load the game...but instead, I am given an error message saying the sevrer cannot be found.

Could this be true? Of course not. I have 3 friends on the game at that very moment.  So I send a message to Jagex (the company that created the game.)  They give me some dumb steps that any idiot with a computer knows about.  They don't work.

My next step, of course, was to run my "Big 4" of computer safety programs.  I ran Spybot, Ad-aware, Microsoft Antispyware, and AVG Anti-Virus.  Zero results on each scan.

Now I knew something was majorly wrong.

After trying Runescape again, and receiving the same error again, I sent Jagex another message.  I never received a reply.  So I decided that since I had been having other computer problems, I would reformat.

The reformat and reinstallation process went wonderfully. No problems at all.

It was the aftermath that went wrong.

I decided to get on the net so I could download some much needed programs (the afformentioned Big 4.)

I used IE for a total of about 10 minutes.  The rest of my time was spent downloading.  In the 10 minutes I was connected, I picked up 3 viruses and 11 spyware objects.  Tell me that doesn't qualify for suckage.

So let this be a lesson: don't use IE and don't surf the net unprotected.

Everything Else / Do You Really Care What People Think Of You?
« on: June 24, 2005, 04:40:32 pm »
I mean...I honestly don't.

If you like me, good.  If you don't, that's fine.

I know a lot of people are so worried about what other people think of them that they have no real personality.  That's a shame.  We shouldn't really give a crap what other people think.

Games / If You Were to Fend Off a Zombie Horde...

Creativity counts here.

Personally, I'd use a spiked horseshoe attached to a rope...or maybe something else.  I'll post it later.

Everything Else / Professional All-Star Games
« on: June 16, 2005, 10:26:26 pm »
Is it just me or are ALL the professional all-star games just popularity contests?

Every year, the same people are put on the teams just because a bunch of people who like a person vote for them.  This isn't to say that they don't all belong there, because many of them do, but year after year, the players who are having great years are shrugged off in favor of someone who will sell tickets because he has a popular name.

This explains Nomar Garciaparra leading the All Star Ballot for the MLB, despite having a terribly mediocre season (at least compared to his previous years.)

So should the All-Star ballot's question be changed from "Who deserves to make the All-Star team?" to "Who is your favorite player?"

Maybe if the leagues stopped letting the fans be THE deciding factor and had some kind of requirements to be on the team (for example: a player needs to have played in X games and should have Y at bats) then the teams would be more "All-STAR" than "All-Favorite."

But maybe the leagues don't WANT anything to be done.  They DO enjoy all the money they get from having games full of favorites.  You can't say the NBA didn't enjoy having all the most popular players on the court all at once, or that the MLB doesn't like that a ton of players from last year's World Series teams will be playing against each other again.

Basically, what I'm saying is that for there to be a true All-Star game in any sport, the league needs to have some kind of criteria which you must meet to be considered to be a candidate.  I mean, would it be fair to put a guy on the NBA All-Stars who scored 28 points a game and played in 25 games over a guy who scored 25 a game and played 42?

Nickelodeon / Old Nick Gameshows
« on: May 04, 2005, 06:42:01 pm »
Who here remembers the gameshows they used to have on Nick? Like Legend of the Hidden Temple and Guts.  I remember those so well.  They were my 2 favorite shows at the time.

I know a lot of you may be too young to remember it well, but I do remember it and a lot of us older people probably do.

What I edited is in bold.  Thanks to Gogita I realized it was Hidden Temple...not Forbidden.

The Pineapple / Revenge of the Cheez

I don't know how many of you remember me, but I was pretty active on the old Spongebob Area forums.

I have always been named thebigcheez.  My real name is Roger.  I just turned 18 a couple of months ago.  My favorite character is Patrick.

I listen to all types of music, but the last couple of days it's been all Kanye West for me.  My favorite music is Green Day (and not just since American Idiot came out) I've liked them since about 1998.  Dookie is the best CD ever in my opinion.

I play RuneScape.  My name on there is thebigcheez if you wanna add me.

Well that's basically all I know to say, so yeah.

If there's anything else you all wanna know, let me know.
