"Impressions of dinosaur skin are incredibly rare fossil finds. The skin of a dead animal is almost always eaten or decayed before it has a chance to leave its mark.
Paleontologists with Western Paleo Labs in Utah recently beat the odds and found beautifully preserved skin imprints in the soft rock that held the fossil remains of a Stegosaurus. The imprints showed different skin patterns on different parts of the dinosaur's body. Overall, the skin had a small pebble pattern. Unfortunately, it isn't possible to know the color of a dinosaur from these types of skin impressions. "
