4 days of school a week?
« on: September 07, 2005, 03:37:47 am »
I have been hearing about this...supposedly they want to make school only 4 days a week, yet add an hour onto each day.  At least in my school district.  This is too save gas prices.  What do you think?

Earlier? If I went to public school, I would not want to be there at 6:00 A.M. You would have to get up at 5! Too early, if you ask me. But I wouldn't mind for days a week only...

It wouldn't make sense to get out any earlier.  That'd mean you were in school less than the federally mandated time.  You have to go to school a certain number of hours per year.  If you were in school an hour less, that would add up to more days of school.

Yeah, it's measured by hours.  I found this out a couple of years ago.  We had an ice storm that kept us out of school almost the entire month of February.  Normally, we got out of school at 1:30 on Wednesday, and 3:00 all the other days.  Instead of getting out at 1:30, we went to school 'til 3:00 every day, and started 5 minutes earlier.  All of that, plus the 5 days amnesty granted by the governor allowed us to only have to make up 5 or 6 days of school.

8-4 or 8-5 wouldnt be so bad. As long as lunch is 1 hour long...I'd be happy. 30 minutes for lunch is too short. Some lines are too long and when you sit down with your tray, time is already up.

I heard about this too. I wouldn't mind it, but every state would have to do it so others wouldn't complain about it.

I wouldn't mind having an extra hour of school, if it's added in the afternoon, and it's used to make the so I only have school 4 days a week.

I have school 4 days a week from 2 to 5:30, but thats not including lab times. I'm usually there 6 hours a day 5 days a week. I cant believe that they have to do this to cut gas.. this country is really going down...

As long as I don't have to wake up any earlier, I wouldn't complain. Then again, another 15 miniutes added on to English would be brutal. My teacher is dreadfully boring.

It would be better to just cut one day off and not add an hour, but the teachers won't have time to fit in all the day's work.

Taking off Monday OR Friday would make a longer weekend.

That's how my calculus class was.  An hour and a half with my teacher spelled death.

I already have Fridays off.  Might as well be in school though, Fridays off just mean you have to do homework.  If public schools let out an extra day, there would probably be more homework.

Find with me take off Friday from the school week & have school from 9-4:15 (until next year which might be earlier at school but I don't care)
