This gets me very angry.
People are told, when buying speakers, that a subwoofer is non-directional and permeates the entire room. I believe that this is only true when buying high-end subs. I think that computer subs are mostly junk and that you need to have them in a central location to you (like a center speaker if you don't have one). People in the dorm next to me complain that they have little bass when watching pr0n on their computer because their sub is 15' away from the computer, under their sink.
EDIT: For example, something like this high-end Bose Base Cannon don't need to be put anywhere in particular.
