SpongeBob taking over the world?
« on: March 06, 2006, 06:40:43 am »
What do Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Hitler, and SpongeBob all have in common?  They all tried to take over the world.  Who would have thought that the only successful one did not have a million man army, or an armada of battleships, or a ministry of propaganda, but square pants?

According to a Viacom press release, after only four weeks on the air, SpongeBob has become the number one cartoon in China, the most populous nation on earth.

Interestingly enough, this article states that shows combining live action and animation are currently banned in China.  Hopefully no members of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television notice the short live action clips in episodes like Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy or the Christmas special.

I bet Plankton brain-washed him. People, we're all going to be slaves soon...

But still, whoa and congrats to Spongebob. Take over Mars :P

Yay for Spongebob. Im not surprised it would hit big in China too (well i was a little surprised) but why wouldnt it be big in other countries? Germany made Spongebob the chancellor and has many avid fans as in the US. So now people wont say SB is a stupid cartoon much if they hear this.

I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that China has a huge population.

This definitely reminds me of my hardcore season 3 box set.
