Stick or Switch?
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:40:18 pm »
You are on a Game Show, and presented with three boxes. One contains a certain amount of money, the other two contain nothing. You choose the first box, then the host opens the second box which is empty. He leaves you with the choice to stick with your original choice (the first box) or switch to the third box. Do you switch or stick with your original box?

There is a logical answer to this.

Stick with the original.

I don't remember the exact logic behind it, but I know if you stick with the original, you have a higher chance.

no, you always switch

because then there is a 2/3 chance that you will get the money

to illostrate it, here are the examples

1
you choose the first box with nothing inside, host takes away the other box with nothing, switch and you get the money

2
you choose the second box with nothing inside, host takes away the other box with nothing inside, switch and you get the money

3
you choose the third box with money inside, host takes away an empty box, you switch you get nothing

so if you switch you get a 2/3 chance of winning

I'd stick.
