Ska!
« on: September 02, 2006, 02:00:10 pm »
It's good music.

Anyone here love ska as much as me?

Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, The Planet Smashers, Skankin' Pickle, The Aquabats, Mustard Plug, Operation Ivy, Suicide Machines (Well...at least some of their stuff is ska), Mighty Mighty Bosstones.  All great ska bands. :)

I love Streetlight Manifesto. Everyone should get both of their CDs.

Before anyone asks what ska is, I'll provide a link to a description. :P

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska

Most of the stuff I listen to is third wave, though I do like some second wave and first wave.

Also, in my bands list, I forgot The Toasters and The Specials.  Both are really good.

Every now and then, Goldfinger releases a few Ska-type songs. Which are aight...

What are some good songs to d/l and try to listen to? I never knew anyone else that listened to ska...

Get "Everything Went Numb" by Streetlight Manifesto, and "On and On and On", "9MM and a Three Piece Suit", "Keasbey Nights", "Riding the Fourth Wave" by Catch 22 (or Streetlight Manifesto, whichever you can find).

PREFERABLY Catch 22.  The Streetlight versions sound way too electronic and overly polished.

The Streetlight Manifesto versions are better.

You just lost all the respect I had for your musical taste. :P

Roger is such a skank :p

I like Ska too but it's more ska-punk if that make sense. We didn't mention Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish who are two of the biggest bands to come from the ska scene. I've heard Sublime being considered ska before also. I can think of some others who have ska-sounding elements in their music.

Yes, Nicole.  I am a skank. :D

And really, the definition of ska has changed based on the waves.  First wave is traditional ska.  It influenced reggae.  Second wave was when it got more complicated and by third wave, it was turned into ska-punk.

LTJ is really good.  Reel Big Fish is okay, but I don't like them a lot. And I wouldn't consider Sublime a ska band.
