Me and a few of my friends are planning on building a solar powered computer.  Anyone think its impossible?

If you do a VIA system, their extreemly low power, especialy the EPIA systems. w00t! Mini ITX  :biggrin:

Thats exactly what I was thinking.  Maybe an EPIA 6000, 533mhz processor, only takes 15 watts at full load  :original:  If we can find more efficient solar cells, maybe an EPIA 10000 1 ghz, it performs a whole lot better but it takes around 23 watts at full load.  The main problem is going to be the monitor.  A 15" LCD takes around 30 watts, and I cant seem to find any smaller LCDs.  I was thinking about ripping a tiny one out of an old laptop...

I dont think that would work, senior projects in WHS have to be "benifiting the commmunity or school". :tongue:

The smallest LCD I can find that has VGA is 14 inches...  EPIAs have s-video out.  It should be possible to create an svideo to PSone screen adapter pretty easily. A PSone screen is around 5 inches, so it shouldn't take more than 10 watts.  If not, there is probably some small LCD TV with svideo input or at least an RCA input.

no we don't have too much time on our hands, we are just thinking ahead and trying to make the world a better place (for ur senior project at WHS) ...i got us a solar cell boys, we are in business...thought it probably wont power a light bulb, laptops when we come up...keep going compbrain!!!!!!!!! :biggrin:
