Poll

What are your views on gay marriage?

I am pro-gay marriage and pro-civil unions. Everyone deserves the right to marry.
I am pro-civil unions and anti-gay marriage. Marriage is between one man and one women but same sex couples still deserve government benefits.
I am anti-civil unions and pro-gay marriage. Civil unions just aren't enough. Same sex couples deserve marriage.
I am anti-civil unions and anti-gay marriage. Marriage should equal one man and one women. Period. No exceptions.
I do not believe in the establishment of marriage.
I don't really care.

Every religion is the wrong religion. Even Atheism, Kevin =p
See, I was referring to a certain type of religions. You know, ones that are actually religions. You believe (so far, what seems "religiously") in the lack of a God.

Atheism is a religion. By the definition of religion, atheism is a religion. I don't see how you can't accept that. It's a religion that does not believe in a God. And really, why is it even that big of a deal?

This is another reason Christianity needs to be de-rooted from America... because you get stupid fundie judges like that who would rather a child be homeless than be with a loving same sex couple. Sickening.

um... I'm sorry but I am a Christian and I support Gay marrage. I really don't go by ALL Christian beliefs. Like other people before me said, Love is love, If you love someone, you should be allowed to marry them, homosexual or not. I'm mad at my state now. Just because a mom is lesbian dosen't mean you have to separate her child from her. The child might not turn out like her mother. I want to go to another state. Georgia's being really stupid. I can't belive they would do such a thing to that poor child! She probably gets really upset over mother's day and things like that.
Sounds like you're in the wrong religion.
And this is why everyone hates Christians. They generalize the religion into making people think that YOU MUST DISLIKE THIS, YOU MUST HATE THAT. You don't have to, the point of the religion is to have a personal relationship with God, not tell people how to eat, think, and breath.
The reason I disagree with the idea of atheism as a religion is because it would be saying that it's got some sort of set of beliefs guiding the follower's lives. and no, I don't "religiously" believe in the lack of a god, I'm  just in opposition to Christianity.

but the thing I don't get is how can you say that you fully support a religion, but only agree with parts of it? I understand you might not find things nearly as severe as other things, but it'd still be bad. From what I've read, the Bible is pretty set on homosexuality being bad.
And that's my point. For one, I myself am not exactly Christian. I believe in the Christian God but am not part of the denomination and disagree with many things the Church has exaggerated. I don't share many of the opinions in the bible, it's as simple as that, that does not make me any less of a "Christian" or any more likely to "rot in the deepest pit of Hell"

So you do not believe in a lack of a God, you simply do not believe in Christianity? I am not sure if this is how you meant it but the way you worded it, it seems that you think there may be a God, just not the Christian one, thus making you Agnostic?

I think the only reason people say they're agnostic is because they're not sure in what they believe. No, I am not closed off to the idea of a god, but I think the whole concept of humans trying to understand it is ludicrous. I guess if you were to summarize my religious beliefs, it'd be more along the lines of "apathetic".

Well see, you have atheists that are trying to disprove God with every ounce of their being. In a way, some atheists have made it a religion of it's own. Atheism is the belief in denying God. Agnosticism is the belief of never acknowledging him in the first place. With me it is that I refuse to follow a set of religious rules. Also I have no idea what religion is right for me. I believe in a "higher being" but I do not believe this higher being is totally all powerful. I believe there would be a heirearchy (SP?).

I dunno. You got those "In your face" atheists, the "rebelious teenager" atheists, and the "former christian" atheists. But eh. I don't care. Everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want. I can't be an atheist because I believe in a higher power. I just don't believe it is the Christian God.

And I thought this was just a "gay marriage poll". xD

I'm actually an athiest myself. I do pray to something unknown sometimes, but too many bad things have happened to me and to others for there to be a so-called "wonderful being who puts things right".
OFF-TOPIC: If you look closely at "Club SpongeBob" (the episode), you can see the religious undertones in it. Squidward's a big "in-your-face" athiest. :P

No, there's different levels of atheism. There's weak, or passive, atheism where someone just doesn't believe in a god. There's also strong, or active, atheism, which like you said, it's the adamant belief that there is no god.

I've thought about it. I belive marrige should be between a man and a woman, based on my religious beliefs. I belive Unions between them is fine, as long as it does not bother the Christians, they should stay out of it. I read in the bible about this city which had all gay people, and they lain with each other. It was considered Evil.

My best friend Is gay. He tells me every day that he wishes he was straight. He is just simply not attracted to females. He tells me if he could change he would.

So firsthand, I know. I was the first person he told about being gay.
Its like forcing someone to like apple juice.

" You MUST like apple juice otherwise you won't fit in and you will not be accepted "

Well if the apple juice simply does not appeal to them, why force them to drink it?

And if leading a fake life just to fit in and make everyone else happy , then thats not right. You can't help how you think or feel. You can't change how you think or feel.

It's not right to force someone to do something they simply cannot do.

But Once again, I belive marrige is between a man and a woman. Simply , if gays want to be different, or are different and can't help it, they should have a different kind of union, ceremony, or marrige. It needs to be something different, but same rights and such, same everything, equal.

If a civil union and marriage were exactly the same, why would they need to be seperate of each other.

Believe me, DHP, I've had that problem before. Except replace apple juice with fashion and stereotypes :P

Seriously though. Does anyone remember the relationship between me and ilovespongebob from last year? I badly wanted to tell somebody (ie: my mother) about it, but I was afraid she'd condemn the relationship. Not just because I'd be homo - also because I was 14 at the time. Can you imagine how insecure that made me feel, going behind my own mother's back just to enjoy myself with my little crush? :(

Well, the Union SHOULD be different, I definetly agree.
Unless the United States can come up with something totally different and made specifically just for gay/lesbian marriges.

And Band8Geek,

It's been hard for me too. I got into a fight with my ex boyfriend after he cheated on me with a 12 year old. And only him did I confide i was bi. Well guess who called my stepdad up and bragged about how I was bi?
I had to deny it of course, but I mean, my family would disown me if they ever knew the truth.

My stepdad took me out and questioned me if I ever dated a chick, if i had any orgys.. It may seem funny now, but at the time I was in tears..

I didn't understand how people (especially parents ) were so unnaccepting of bi/gay/lesbianism.

If you ever need someone to talk to , feel free to talk to me...

Well... to a point I don't think churches should be forced to perform gay marriages if they don't want to, but then again there are churches willing to perform gay marriages. The problem with civil unions is they don't entail many of the benefits of marriage.

And I don't understand why Christians are against homosexuality so much... the bible rarely ever mentions homosexuality or lesbianism, and Jesus never spoke of it once. I've been studying the bible and studying and studying. I have come to a conclusion that the bible actually says nothing real negative against homosexuals. The only verse that does is in Leviticus, but Levitican law would be absolutely impossible to follow. Every person on the Earth would be executed if Leviticus was law of the land.

As far as Sodom and Gomorrah go, ask yourself this question... if the men surrounding Lot's house were homosexuals, why would he offer them his daughters? It is clear here that the sin of Sodom was NOT homosexuality but inhospitality.

But to get back on topic... I believe the church has the right to refuse marriage to a gay couple if they so choose... but shouldn't churches who want to marry gay couples have that opportunity too? As a Gay American, I find it simply appalling that people use religion as a basis for rejecting homosexuals and homosexuality. Believe it or not, ever since I have read the bible I have become more and more accepting of my homosexuality. I tried to change it... but it just is part of who I am and I accept that =)

Ok... for one. I have very recently converted to Christianity. Surprise surprise huh?

Number two, I know that. I have come across anti-gay atheists too.
