But they don't. No matter where you go, someone is gonna complain. Sure, that may change in the future, but it's unlikely to be anytime soon. It's an unfortunate fact of life, but we have to live up to these "standards". In today's society image DOES matter!

Then why not let them complain? Why not start changing the norm now? Why wait for the future change? Why not change it now?

Because it isn't worth the loss of business.

The way this thread is going we are discussing heavy modifications, and yes, I do believe that even at this day in age, people will be a little less than respectful to those with body modifications.

I know people who are a little less respectful of Africans, east indians, asians, caucasians, females, males, tall people, short people, skinny people, fat people, ugly people, mentally disabled people ect. Everyone considers that to be wrong. Saying body modification isn't okay somewhere because people are going to be frowning apon it is just like saying you aren't going to hire the fat man because his weight might offend someone.

I didn't say offend. Listen, employers want a professional environment. What is professional? Suits, ties, etc. Why? Because they, to the vast majority, are eye pleasing and not distracting. I do not mind body modification, but you need to understand why piercing and tattoos all over your body is frowned upon in high class/highly professional environments.

And that's why. Same reason you need to wear the same clothes as everyone when you work at a grocery store or a Wally world.

So you're saying that we should conform to the norm for the 1% of the population that'll complain about a slightly visible neck tattoo?

>_<

No, I am saying that if you have excessive amounts of piercing/tats, you conceal them.

And I'm saying that if you have a little bit, they still make you cover it. Who draws the line?

I am not saying that cover it if you have a little bit, that's fine, but I think if you have like full body tattoos (pretty common among those who have tats) and piercings all over is the line.

I was done arguing with you silly :P

I'm saying that while you and I both say that it's fine, many others out there don't think so.

Many employers see tattoos and peircings bad for buisness. It is frowned upon because that is not the image that the store wants to set out.
Many people porcieve having peircings and noticeable tattoos as a way to draw attention to yourself.

Employers do not want more attention drawn to a person then their merchandise.
Now Hot Topic, for instance, wants a certain look and feel put out about it.

The scary store that old people have heart attacks just looking at.
They sell the merchandise, studs, gauges, rings, ect., and the employees having that is simply a way to advertise. Every store and person has a certain appeal and image it wants to present, and being "different" simply will not cut it in the work force.

It does distract people , it is not natural, and it is not part of your body. Therefor adults will complain.

Fake boobs may not be natural, but boobs are a part of your body. Making them bigger can be a distraction, but its a normal distraction.. Hooters, for instance, hires pretty girls with big boobs. Why? Well look at all the men who love the "chicken wings" there.

Everything an Employer puts out is supposed to porcieve a certain look, image, and feel to its customers. Nose rings, gauges, and pink hair isn't what the buisness wants to be remembered and known for.
Sometimes when I sleep at night I think of (Dr. Seuss's) 'Hop on Pop.'
