Format wars
« on: August 22, 2007, 10:12:39 pm »
So I was reading this article  in the paper and it said that the format wars could possibly be over by this holiday season(although I doubt it will).Blu-ray has more support from companies such as Apple, dell,Intel,Samsung, pioneer, panisonic, philips, sony, sharp,hp and many more...its actually about 170 companies overall.
also it is supported by movie studios such as...Walt Disney(exclusive)Warner Bros,20th century Fox
(exclusive),MGM(exclusive)Lionsgate(exclusive)and more.HD-dvd,its rival has support from Microsoft, sanyo, kenwood, alpine, toshiba, rca and nec. Movie studio support from Universal, paramount and dreamworks.
The blu-ray disc currently can hold 50 gigs while hd dvd can hold up to 25 at most.they are also saying that the blu-ray could get up to 200 gigs in the near future.hd dvd has a combo format on some titles, wich means dvd version on one side and hd dvd on the other. Also Blockbuster is only carrying Blu-rays to rent. And Target said that in the fourth quarter of the format war, they will only be selling blu-ray players. So any who...my question is wich do you prefer. My personal choice is obviously blu-ray.

I don't care for either. It's just an excuse for the movie producers to shove more DRM in it.

I'd go with HD-DVD over Blu-Ray though.

It's not over yet.  Paramount and Dreamworks are back to being exclusively HD-DVD.  Besides the power that Microsoft has over the situation.

Either way, they're both going to lose.  The future is online distribution.

I'd go with HD-DVD over Blu-Ray though.
why is that?
HD-DVD isn't backed by Sony.

well yes but you cant change the fact that blu-ray has more titles, more support and is a better disc overall, and personally I don't see what is wrong with sony at all.

Its Betamax all over again...

I'd go with HD-DVD simply because DVD is currently the standard.

There is no such thing as peace and there never will be. Peace is a delusion believed by the weak. Gandhi said : "An eye of an eye would leave the whole world blind". So be it because only a blind world can experience the peace that it deserves. But there in lay the sick irony. Who will be able to see this peace? The human species is at war. The enemy walks among us nearly invisible. Only those with true discernment can see them. But only one with discernment and vision can show them to others

um Well its not exactly beta max all over again for a few reasons cause beat max was not easy to use and there was hardly any titles on it...its the complete opposite for blu ray

Just the fact that alienware is selling a 600$ 4x drive is reason enough not to buy it.
