I don't even use my family's desktop anymore, so I don't know the specs on it.

Laptop
OS: Vista
 Motherboard: Don't know.
 Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2  2.00GHz
 Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M
 RAM: 3GB DDR2 RAM
Hard Drive(s): 250GB (internal), Lacie 80GB (external), Lacie 500GB (external)
CD-RW/DVD-RW: I have one, but don't know much about it.
Mr. Krabs: Do you smell it..that smell...a kind of smelly smell...a smelly smell that smells smelly. Anchovies.
Squidward: What?
Mr. Krabs: ANCHOVIES!
Anchovies: MEEP, MEEP, MEEP.

I probably won't be on here too much being in college and all. I will try to pop on every once in a while though to share my thoughts.

MEEP!, you still anti-Mac? My AMD Computer runs MacOS X Leopard 10.5.4 better than Windows XP or Windows Vista and Adobe CS3 programs like Premiere Pro and Photoshop run a lot faster when I'm running MacOS X.

No, not really. When I was comparing prices, the Mac Laptops were 3 times as expensive as the PC. I felt the Mac also didn't offer as much, so I went with this one. It has everything I wanted/needed and some bonuses.

As far as OS goes, if I had a choice I would like to have XP on here. OS X is fine and all, but I just prefer XP. CS3 runs about the same speed on my laptop as the Macs at my school so I see no need for Mac.

I don't like Ubuntu. I've switched off of it and I'm using Fedora now for the tv computer. I also got rid of OS X on the AMD because it's not fully compatible. I find Fedora a lot faster than Ubuntu, more stable, and just as easy to use plus I can choose what packages I want when I install it unlike Ubuntu that just bloats in a bunch of useless crap.

I wouldn't be using it. I do casual gaming and school stuff, but I just want a rig that doesn't have 1gig of ram and has more than 1 core.

That and the deal I get on the PSU CPU combo isn't bad. 50$ off, then 50$ rebate on the psu.

I don't like OS X.

Really? Why not?
There is no such thing as peace and there never will be. Peace is a delusion believed by the weak. Gandhi said : "An eye of an eye would leave the whole world blind". So be it because only a blind world can experience the peace that it deserves. But there in lay the sick irony. Who will be able to see this peace? The human species is at war. The enemy walks among us nearly invisible. Only those with true discernment can see them. But only one with discernment and vision can show them to others

I admit OS X does take some getting used to but what doesn't? It's still a very good OS, you need to get it used though, same with linux.

No, I've had to use it a decent amount for classes.  I've taken two that were taught in Mac labs.  I just don't like it.  I like my computing experience to be exactly what I want it to be, not what Steve Jobs wants it to be.

I would rather have OS X on a custom computer than an apple and it would perform better if Jobs would allow it.

OSX is too simple for it's own good. You can't do jack with it, I wouldn't even call it that great for video editing. The only reason it is show praised is because it looks shiny (never liked it's look personally) and it's more stable than Windows (which is only because Apple computers work with it)

You can too do stuff with OS X, I do graphics, flash, and video work and it performs a lot better than Windows. Being more stable than Windows has NOTHING to do with what kind of computer it is on, I've installed MacOS X on several non-apple computers and it ran far more stable and faster than Windows XP did that on the computer. On OS X, I can do everything I can do on Windows except for Windows-Only games. OS X on my 1.1GHz laptop is faster than Windows on my 2GHz P4 and it does great with Adobe CS3 and Final Cut for an older system.

I just got a new laptop, and believe it or not I choose to get a PC, I just couldn't bring myself to spend $1300 for the basic MacBook. So anyway for $750 I got this HP laptop.
AMD Turion 64bit XL2 TL-60 2 GHZ
4GB RAM
320GB HDD

In order to make it through the world one needs some insanity.

i tried fedora. i'll never try it again....sorry.

Ubuntu is far more "basic user"-friendly.

I'm gonna probably do ubuntu and wine with Steam and CS on it, and then i won't need windows anymore.

i love the wireless configurations :)

but my usb ports are dying :( need new computer asap

I rather Windows over Ubuntu any day simplify because Ubuntu hates Socket AM2/AM2+ processors. Fedora runs fine on every system I've tried on it, I don't see why people use Ubuntu over it. You can do everything on Ubuntu in Fedora and it will perform better.

Fedora ran like a turd with wheels on my system, and it couldn't even figure out what resolution to put my monitor at.
Ubuntu automatically detected the VX900T and put it at 1280x1020 with no edges cut off, and didn't bork my system when I uninstalled it.

Why do you use AMD?

Whatever the newest one was a month ago....8? 9?

I have pretty common hardware too and it didn't like any of it.
