Another Vista Runaway
« on: February 09, 2009, 07:43:50 pm »
Lets face it, Vista sucks...

And the people who use it...get a mac.

I just installed Xp pro on my friends HP pavilion dv6000.

Everything works except graphics, but for my friend its nothing big, the generic driver works rather well.

There is no such thing as peace and there never will be. Peace is a delusion believed by the weak. Gandhi said : "An eye of an eye would leave the whole world blind". So be it because only a blind world can experience the peace that it deserves. But there in lay the sick irony. Who will be able to see this peace? The human species is at war. The enemy walks among us nearly invisible. Only those with true discernment can see them. But only one with discernment and vision can show them to others

Vista doesn't suck for some people.

But for the rest of us having problems, modifying it is really the only way to get a nice copy of it.

But honestly, you're better off with Windows 7 at this point. Less effort needed.

I find it funny that all you "techies" have problems with Vista, yet someone like me who doesn't know much can use it without a problem.

I had stability problems with it on my main pc, but a cheap notebook that I had for a while handled it fine. As did a computer I built for my friend ryan. As did one of those ancient Gateway tablet-PCs (one of the very first tablets to come out).

So yea, I've had issues, but I've had good times too. Slimming the ISO down usually helped me alot.

I honestly would downgrade to XP, but I've already looked into, and XP doesn't have the drivers I need.

In order to make it through the world one needs some insanity.

If I needed to use Windows for anything, I would try to use the earliest possible OS version. If I could run program X on Windows 95, I would. My dad's laptop has Vista and it gets annoying.

Everything has XP drivers. And if the company refuses to make them, someone out there made them for you :)

Welcome to wireless card land; just get the model number for your card + "linux" and search for it on Google, that's always how I start.

True, but you're still burdened with that primitive kernel and those security nightmares. Some have managed not to be attacked by malicious programs...But Windows still sucks...simply because there are more powerful OS alternitives.

I find it funny that all you "techies" have problems with Vista, yet someone like me who doesn't know much can use it without a problem.

Wouldnt techies try and stay away from vista? I dunno...

Once again you're still burdened with the issues still present within Windows...
If I needed to use Windows for anything, I would try to use the earliest possible OS version. If I could run program X on Windows 95, I would. My dad's laptop has Vista and it gets annoying.

What's so amazing is how little the win32 platform has changed. I can run apps from 2009 on Windows 95.
I honestly would downgrade to XP, but I've already looked into, and XP doesn't have the drivers I need.

I couldnt find the  graphics drivers for my friends laptop. But she doesnt need them.

Proof? I have had no errors pop up or no blue screen or no random errors come up since I've had it and it's been at least 6 months.

I'm currently using windows 7 on PC but still have vista on laptop. Both are still working flawlessly

Its very simple. Just do a little research.

If I knew the info I could probably find it in a day at most.

I think you're lying.

The father here experience a few Bsods setting up his win2k machine
Friend experience BSOD when getting computer out of sleep mode.
Friend got BSOD closing window
Brother got  BSOD setting up graphics card drivers.
Friend got BSOD due to registery problems
Friend got BSOD due to CSRSS process terminating
I got BSOD trying to install SP3
Got BSOD due to registery issues.
Got BSOD due to file system errors.
Got BSOD due to windows update screwing over CSRSS process
Got BSOD after windows install
Got BSOD durring windows install
Got BSOD after installing new hardware
Got BSOD after defrag
Got BSOD after closing window.
Got BSOD after removing old hardware
School computer got BSOD saving a PSD file.
School computer BSOD on start up
School computer BSOD on viewing webpage.
School computer BSOD viewing flash

The ITs at our school have to tweak these computers beyond belief just to make them function.

Dad(former IT) had to tweak his and my brothers computer beyound belief just to make them function.

Me, Ive gone mac and haven't really gone back...

I mean proof as in a screen cap. or pics.

I can claim, easily claim that Ive never gotten a single kernel panic on this mac.

You only get nonstop random BSODs on failing hardware. Those are all random reasons, and your school computers prolly have a bad image.

And 2k? Yea they'd happen in 2k, but you just sucked it up and dealt with it.

I rarely ever get a BSOD in XP. Infact, I'd have component failure due to pushing it too hard before I'd get a BSOD....go talk to my fried 6600GT.

I've had no BSODs on W7 yet and i've been using it since Early December. Its pretty much on 24/7 too....restarted maybe a week ago.

Prove that you never have had a single error or bsod in that use period of that machine, but there's really no way so I already know that you're lying.

Dude all public schools are stupid, regardless.

Cant do anything right with a computer?

Well I agree with you right there, they are using that wal-mart 3rd world operating system with that poor, primitive, and proprietary kernel developed by the biggest of software nazis the world has ever experienced, blowing away more money than they are saving money with having to have virus scanner subscriptions,  hurting the pathetic fragile american economy, preventing an end to old technoliges like usb and VGA, relying on IT teams just to maintain each system, using an OS that was stolen, and yeah you are right that isnt right at all, schools should invest in real computers like macs, or switch to a much better OS other than...windows...

If anyone whos stupid it would be people who still think windows is useful, its crap, it sucks, and it has been defied by humanity as being crap.

It was also steve jobs stupidity for being so  naive and giving code to bill gates, which he quickly stole and developed that pile of os crap!

im continuing to poke fun at SSJ because I know that his claim is false.  Even if he is one of the 10% of computer users who dont experience  much issues with windows, its not true when someone says that they've never experienced a BSOD or error message.

MVP is the most important war being fought today...I think xD

I've never had a major problem with Vista.

A few BSoDs here and there, but nothing too bad.. yet.
And I'm still REALLY shaky on trying out the new one.

there are a few antivirus progs that needed rewritten, and one or two small annoyances, but it still is 99% painless.

I'll just wait until the official release and save me (most of) the remaining 1% pain with doing it now. :P

I've had Vista for over a year and don't get what all the fuss is about. I like the general layout of XP a bit better, but I've had almost no problems whatsoever on Vista. My laptop froze twice and folders open slower since I installed a new Antivirus in January. Other than that I've had no problems with Vista.
Mr. Krabs: Do you smell it..that smell...a kind of smelly smell...a smelly smell that smells smelly. Anchovies.
Squidward: What?
Mr. Krabs: ANCHOVIES!
Anchovies: MEEP, MEEP, MEEP.

I probably won't be on here too much being in college and all. I will try to pop on every once in a while though to share my thoughts.
