2004 NFL Season
« on: September 09, 2004, 07:03:15 am »
Yes, the long awaited 2004 NFL season is finally here (HALLELUJAH!), and not a moment too soon.  The first game of the season is tonight as the Indianapolis Colts tries to revenge their AFC Championship loss to the eventual Super Bowl champions New England Patriots.  And then on Sunday, the season really gets underway, with a full slate of action.

Of course, though, the most anticipated game of the week is tonight.  Indianapolis gets to start off their 2004 campaign against the team that ended their 2003 one.  Peyton Manning played horrible in the 21-14 loss, throwing 4 interceptions.  Of course, the Colts need to have Manning sharp if they want to win the game.

But the New England Patriots have a lot going for them.  They won the Super Bowl for the second time in three years, they haven't lost since September of last year, and they added RB Corey Dillon over the offseason.  Oh, and they still have Tom Brady and the best coach in the league in Bill Belichick. And with the game played at Gillete Stadium, that just gives another advantage to the Patriots.

My prediction for tonight's game:  New England 23, Indianapolis 13.  I'll probably be totally wrong, but oh well.

Here's the Week 1 schedule, in case anyone cares:

Thursday, Sep. 9
Indianapolis at New England, 9:00 pm

Sunday, Sep. 12
Arizona at St. Louis, 1:00 pm
Baltimore at Cleveland, 1:00 pm
Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets, 1:00 pm
Detroit at Chicago, 1:00 pm
Jacksonville at Buffalo, 1:00 pm
Oakland at Pittsburgh, 1:00 pm
San Diego at Houston, 1:00 pm
Seattle at New Orleans, 1:00 pm
Tampa Bay at Washington, 1:00 pm
Tennessee at Miami, 1:00 pm
Atlanta at San Francisco, 4:15 pm
Dallas at Minnesota, 4:15 pm
N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia, 4:15 pm
Kansas City at Denver, 8:30 pm
Monday, Sep. 13
Green Bay at Carolina, 9:00 pm

Only 11 hours and 2 minutes till the kickoff of tonight's game!  Good gravy, I'm going insane waiting.

Wow, another game affected by a hurricane.  The Titans/Dolphins has been moved up to Saturday due to Hurricane Ivan.

Wonder if I'll still be able to see the game on DirecTV.

Yeah.  I mean, I remember thinking in July that there hasn't been many hurricanes this year, and now there's a hurricane every week.  It's getting fairly annoying...... they're screwing up everything.

Stupid natural disasters.

It's going to be the Vikings and the Ravens in the Super Bowl, with the Vikes finally winning it all.

Edit:  OK, what self respecting football fan would want to listen to Jessica Simpson?  Or any of the other artists on the pregame show, for that matter?  They should just scrap the pregame show, since they suck at scheduling the artists so much.

Edit #2:  3-0 NE, but Indy is in the red zone....... Indy will have to sttle for the FG.  3-3.

Edit #3:  Dang, nice way to start the NFL season.  Patriots win due to a key sack by Willie McGinest, which turned a 30-something FG into a 46-yard FG, and Vanderjagt missed it.  Brady just might be the best QB in the league, and he had a very solid night.

However, if James didn't have those two key fumbles, the Colts would've won.  But all in all, a very exciting game.
