And Some Dare To Call Some Of These People "Retarded"

A few years ago, at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants,
all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100 yard dash.
At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash,
but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win.
All, that is, except one little boy who stumbled on the asphalt,
tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry.

The other eight heard the boy cry.
They slowed down and looked back.
Then they all turned around and went back --- every one of them.
One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said,
"This will make it better."
Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line.
Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes.

People who were there are still telling the story. Why?
Because deep down we know this one thing.
What matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves.
What matters in this life is helping others win even if it means slowing down and changing our course.

That's an awesome story.
Mr. Krabs: Do you smell it..that smell...a kind of smelly smell...a smelly smell that smells smelly. Anchovies.
Squidward: What?
Mr. Krabs: ANCHOVIES!
Anchovies: MEEP, MEEP, MEEP.

I probably won't be on here too much being in college and all. I will try to pop on every once in a while though to share my thoughts.

That's a story of a true person who loves everyone and everything no matter their disability. If everyone could open up and see things like they do, the world would be such an amazing place.

realy there is no diference

but shes saying "they" as they are the people who ran the race,

its a realy nice story, although its unfortunatly not so for many

everyone sees the world diferently, and there opinon changes depending on what has happend to them in their life

for some life is a desperate struggle to sruvive, no one is your friend and you cant trust anyone

for others life is a game that has no rules, where you can find your own way to the end

though no matter how you interprute it, everyone starts and ends the same, so why should the middle be any diferent?

That was a great story. And some people even laugh at the special olympics. People with disabilities are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. They really dont care about whos better or whos worse. Thats real sportsmaship.

Agreed. I know a few disabled people and they are great.
