Theres a new virus around, and its taking out hundreds of thousands of insecure Windows boxes...

You know you've been infected if you get a message that says something like "Computer shutting down in 60 seconds." (no, I'm not joking).

Anywho, if you got it, heres the tool to fix it.

If you haven't gotten it, then you should patch your system to prevent it. Run Windows Update and install all of the Critical Updates.

Nope, lucky I guess. Well it's due to me having Win 98, but I'm moving on to Redhat Linux 9 tomorrow on my new rockin computer that my bro built me. I dare not try to build one myself.

But what's interesting is I heard that the kid who made it is 13 and has a strong disdain for Bill Gates.

Good choice Compbrain. Yellowbird, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 13 year old. Apparently, it was coded pretty badly. Most of the parts of the worm were created by other people, the author just super-glued them all together and launched it...

Hey I haven't been on in forever but yeah my moms comp was so badly infected we had to wipe out everything and re-load XP. My bro hacks and I could have rang his neck. It's ppl like my bro who screw up our lives!

Yellowbird, the patch was available about 2 weeks before an exploit was actually found for the problem. Microsoft was ready for this one, but many Windows-users were not. After the exploit was found, a bunch of hackers started to manually exploit it, and it made news headlines. People still didn't patch their systems. About 2 weeks after that, this virus came out, and was able to infect around 250,000 computers that were STILL unpatched after all these weeks of warnings...

A Russian guy made the virus. I don't know why but whatever it is my comp is safe.
