Mine would regularly be 800 by 600 but I am trying 1024 by 768.

If you can't get past 70Hz on 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 I would highly recommend you not use it. 1280x1024 hurts my eyes on this monitor because it can't go past 60Hz but anyways I use 1024x768 @ 85Hz.
