I consider .net to be the 'best' or 'good, but since more people know .com it's easier to get around and such...

So i voted .com

This is a pointless conversation as the different domains are supposed to be used for specific purposes, not for the reason 'I like it!'.  Take a look here: http://www.acky.net/tips/internet/internet/int103.sht

It hardly matters what they're supposed to mean.
The site owner has full choice and doesn't have to follow the rules.

They act as a clarification of the sites intent, and any reputable site owner will chose accordingly.  Sure anyone can buy any, but if they plan on making a respectable presence on the web, they should keep the meanings of domains in mind.  Why does BestBuy's site use the .com domain, because it is a company; why does the Gentoo Foundation use the .org domain, because it is an organization; why does Northeastern University use the .edu domain, because they are an educational institution.
