Do you have the right to choose death for another human if....
« on: October 23, 2006, 10:50:34 am »
Read this http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20061022a2.html Then go vote. this topic is completely non-demonational, just like the news story. Over the years ive read a number of times about parents trying to preven their child who would otherwise die from recieving medical treatment that would save their life in the name of their religion.

Hmmm, well if that is their religious belief...but it still is like neglecting your baby and just letting it die 0-0

It would depend on the religion. Some have very very strong beliefs towards any body modification (piercing = shot at sunrise), while others just say that it's taboo.

No.

Right now, I'm becoming very critical of organized religion. I want to worship God in a way that doesn't require me to follow a set of rules.

Thats spirituality, and that is how it ought to be. Above all else is the importance of determing for yourself how to find your path to whatever god may exist. I hope you find the right path for yourself, patback, and that your friends and family support you, rather than condemn you for not following their religion.

I choose NO.
Since in my religion, the only thing that decides if you die or not is you.
The lifestream mainly selects where you go to from there.

I say no. No one has the right to take you off of a feeding tube and let you starve to death like in the "Terry Shciavo" incedent.

You know, I used to believe that until recently. Now, I feel that people need to begin writing wills and stating if they want to go or not in that case.

Yep. That I can agree with, Icefox.

But ASE posted a link with religious connotations. If the will said "I want full medical treatment" and your religion said "hellz no" and your parents were very devout, what would happen?

Probably depends on your age. If the courts decide that you are old enough to make an adult decision and fully comprehend the consequences, then your parents wouldnt be able to override it.

Just make sure you get any type of document like that notorized or something so it stands up in court.

I say no. When you're a Christian (like me), and people say "Worship God, shun Satan, be a good person, yada yada yada", that I'll listen to. But if they say "somebody has to die if", oh say, they get a tatoo or piercing, I think it's dumb.
April Fool: I'm the April Fool. What's up with that?
Timmy: It's official, this guy sucks. I wish he was somewhere else!
*Poof!*
Timmy: Where'd you guys poof him to?
*Both fairies give evil smiles*
April Fool: I never asked for this!
Jorgen: Shut up, or I'll have Chuck Norris roundhouse kick you in the face again!

No. There's a difference. What Carter is saying is like a Christian Scientist saying that they're not going to get you any medical treatment whatsoever. Terri Schiavo was different, because she was a terminally ill patient who had 0% chance of recovering.
