Computers & Video Games / Shadow Of The Colossus
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:39:47 am »
I just picked this game up from town today, and it has to be said its one of the most visually stunning games every to come to the PS2 in my opinion, I'll tell you now the game is very linear, you go kill a massive skyscraper sized monster, then you go and kill another, thats about it, but its definately worth playing,

Read a review about it here.....http://ps2.ign.com/objects/490/490849.html

Anyway, If you can, buy/rent it, its definately worth it.

Easter Island Head / Easter Island Head Rules/Advice 2006
« on: January 24, 2006, 04:51:24 am »
The Easter Island Head as you all know, is here to display creative work you’ve made, be it Art Work, a Fan Fic, or any other creative medium you’d like to show.

Although the work you can display here isn’t limited to a Spongebob-esque theme, we’re introducing some new rules you must follow, please read the following.

1. All work must be original, we can’t stress that enough, USB takes a strong stance again plagiarism (Click here to read our views on Plagiarism)

2. Work must be suitable for all ages, meaning no pornographic or explicit work please.

3. Please at least make your work look like you’ve put some kind of effort in, if I, or any of the mods/admin see that you’re taking advantage of the Easter Island Head by adding ridiculous squiggles for example, we will not hesitate to close/delete the thread.

4. Be creative! Create something fresh, just don't churn out more SpongeBob themed iPod pictures! Explore your boundaries and go beyond them.

5. Give reasonable comments to other peoples work, instead of a one word reply, or a “its ok” reply, give proper judgements on peoples work, after all, that’s why they are showing them in the first place, to receive some feed back. Again, silly pointless replies will be removed.

We aren’t trying to be harsh here at USB, but we feel that the Easter Island Head is being taken advantage of as of late, so these rules have been enforced to improve the section. The most important part I feel, and trust me here, I’m an artist after all so I know what I’m on about, is to have fun when drawing/writing. If you really put effort into a piece, you’ll feel a million times better when you read you’re feedback on here! So, have fun   !

Computers & Video Games / Kingdom Hearts 2
« on: November 08, 2005, 04:37:01 am »
If any one else is interested out there about Kingdom Hearts, like I am, then you've got to check out the second one, I've been looking at it, and so far it has some of the best looking graphics I've seen on the PS2, everything is so perfectly rendered and animated (I dont mean comparing it to photo realistic stuff, but I mean in terms of the style that they have gone for, its perfect, so very disney), but that isnt what shocked me the most about this game.

Obviosuly, there are new disney worlds to visit, including the Pride Lands, Mulan's place,  Steamboat Willie, but the one that suprised me the most about the new worlds is.....Pirates of the Carribean, out of all the films they could have chosen, they chose this one, not that its a bad thing, Im really happy they did, its just a very random film for them to chose.

Here are some screens...

Simba, Pumbaa, And TImon at the Pride Lands.

What you play as in the Pride Lands.

Jack Sparrow in Dead Pirate Form

Normal Jack Sparrow (Great how close that looks to the real Johhny Depp)

Evil Old Ursula!

Easter Island Head / Plagiarism Rules.
« on: October 30, 2005, 10:12:12 am »
Plagiarise (play-ja-rise) verb.

1. To steal and use (the ideas or writings of another) as one's own.
2. To appropriate passages or ideas from (another) to use as one's own.

Above is the dictionary definition of the word "plagiarise", recently on USB we've seen various bits of plagiarism going on around the forum, most of it we won't question, but when it comes to plagiarising other peoples art work and claiming it as their own, it becomes a totally different matter.

So we have enforced some new rules on the matter, if you're caught blatantly Plagiarising other peoples work, claiming it as you own, and not giving any credit to the original artist/creator, then you will incur the following punishments.

1. If you're caught, the first offence with be a 1 week ban, no questions asked.
2. If caught again, then you will be banned for a month, again, no questions asked.
3. If you plagiarise for a 3rd time, then you will receive a permanent ban from USB.

USB takes a strong stance against plagiarism as its it rude, shallow, and hurtful towards the original artists. If you have any questions regarding plagiarism, please feel free to contact any of USB's moderators who will be happy to answer any questions regarding the matter.

Everything Else / I'm Pinching Myself
« on: October 07, 2005, 11:01:59 am »
Yes, quite literally, I'm pinching myself, because, yes, this doesnt seem real.

The last few days have been, well, interesting to say the least. Some of you know what I'm on about, some of you dont, but to put it simply, I'VE BEEN ASKED TO ANIMATE A KIDS TV SERIES....ahem, yes, I have.

It all came about a few months ago when my Mum met someone who was looking for an animator for this new TV show he was making, Mum suggested me, he called, and asked me to send over some stuff I'd done. I did, and he called me back 3 days ago to say he really liked my stuff, and wants to use me.

He called back yesterday asking me to go to a few meetings with people, its so freakishly wierd, I cant even begin to explain, the funniest thing they said to me, which made me realise this was kinda real was "We'll discuss how much money you'd need to get the animations done". I nearly died!

Anyway, I'm still not sure exactly what the show will be about, but apparently they are trying to get british actor Ricky Tomlinson to do the voice, if you've seen the popular British TV show "The Royle Family" you'll know who I mean

(He is the beardy guy on the left)

AANNYYWWAAYY, its all pretty gosh darn exciting so far, it means the caricature thing I'm doing will have to take a back seat for a bit, but, you know, it'll be worth it later.

I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.

Computers & Video Games / A USB Online Gaming Session?
« on: September 30, 2005, 06:08:34 am »
I dont know if anything like this has been done before here, but I thought I may as well suggest it.

Last night whilst playing Burnout 3 on Xbox Live, I realised that there was no one online at all, (probably because of Burnout 4, which is bloody amazing) but anyway, I suddenly thought, Why not have a big ol' USB game.

Surely, there are enough people on here who have Xbox live to play a decent online game of something. Not just the Xbox though, it could be a PC game that a few of us have. I just thought it might be fun to interact with you guys in a new way, you know, by blowing your brains out in Halo 2, or forcing you into a wall in Burnout, or kicking your asses at Worms.

I dunno, It was just a thought, if anyone is interested, let me know. It should be a laugh.

Everything Else / Some Random Holiday Videos
« on: September 27, 2005, 07:04:47 pm »
If you get bored, like me, and you want something random to pass the time with, then why not check out these awfully pointless videos of me and my friend Neil from our Chuffalo Floriday in Florida

(Chong + Buffalo = Chuffalo, Florida + Holiday = Floriday...just so you know)

Anyway, here are 5 random clips of the 3 and a half hours worth of stuff we recorded, the files are all in WMV, because mainly I couldnt be bothered messing about with codec and all that stuff....blah blah blah, anyway, here are the videos...

1. The Opening Titles
Here are the opening titles for the DVD I'm making from all the footage I filmed, it makes me laugh anyway!!

2.Map Reading
Neil decides to try and guess where we are 6 hours into our flight to Florida, how wrong can he get?

3. Jaws...and my fear
We go on the Jaws ride, see what I thought before, after, and what my greatest fear is.

4.Dolphins
My 2nd swim with Dolphins in 1 summer, plus another bit where the woman training us decided to take mick out of my name, and the fact that I'm British, it made me smile so I'll let her off.

5. The Closing Credits
This will be the closing credits, its me, Lip Syncing to Tony Christie - Amarillo, the writing will scroll up the right hand side of my face, Neil and I thought it was a good idea at the time!

I hope you like my videos, they are a tiny segment of the hilarity that is my full length video!

Site News / My First Threads of the Week
« on: September 26, 2005, 03:18:39 am »
Hey there people. Here are this weeks "Threads Of The Week" brought to you for the first time by me! Chongster!

First up this week, new Spongebob episodes are appearing on our screens, comment on the most recently aired "Selling Out" episode..

Thanks to Roger for providing us with a rather good pencil drawing of Yoda, It seems like a lot of work went into the drawing, so check it out.

I feel the Hurricane Rita topic should be featured, pop over to see what everyone thought about it, and how its affected certain people.

And finally, for some light relief, the "N00bish Topic" was quite a good one, looking back at how we all used to be. Its pretty amusing!

Thats it for this week, Have fun and all that jazz!

Easter Island Head / The Official "Simon Will Draw You" Thread
« on: September 19, 2005, 06:12:43 pm »
Hello there everyone, My name is Simon, and I draw, after a recent "thing" between Jackie-Boy and I, its decided that I should attepmt to draw Caricatures of people on here. Now, I must warn you first, I am terrible at drawing Caricatures, drawing cartoons , and caricatures, believe it or not, are two TOTALLY diffrent things. But who lets a little thing like that get in the way!

So, here is it, If you want a caricature of youself drawn, then simply ask me, write in here what you'd like yourself to look like, you can either do that by adding a photo, or describing yourself, if you dont want me to draw an exact likness of yourself, then just tell me something random, and I'll do that.

I'd like to point out a few things though...

Eventually, I'll probably get bored of this, so please try and keep it interesting for me, and you, I wont draw you're charicature unless I think the description/photo is good enough, please dont just type "Can you draw me" because then I DEFINATELY wont draw you...anyway...

The first two caricatures I've done are of Alex (Kenny Blankenship) and Jack (Jackie-Boy). Here they are...

(Jack, I went off the description for you, not a photo, I hope you like it, If not, I'll change it!)

The Pineapple / Im Back...
« on: September 19, 2005, 02:57:15 pm »
Whew, I'm gone a week and a bit, and the place goes bonkers, 2 good members with a leaving post, that really, really sucks.

I'm very sorry to see Jackie-boy and Starr2k3 to leave, Its a shame its come to this, it really is. I'll miss you both.

Anyway, under all the sadness, and grey skies, there is a slight bit of good news, I'm back....actually, you decide if its good of bad news, I'm in no place to say.

So yeah, I had an absoloutly AMAZING holiday in Florida, probably the best I've had in a LONG time, and thats all because I'm a big kid at heart, and Disney World is now my 2nd home! BUT....there have been a few things I've noticed about the USA that I find...odd, although we speak the same language, the lifestyle is so diffrent, let me highlight a few things I found odd...

1. Automatic Toilets - I can flush it myself thanks, I dont need you're magical science.
2. KFC - Oh...My...God...I've never been so confused in all my life, Our KFC is just the easiest thing ever to order, for like 20 mins I was stading back of the line to figure out the menu...so confused...
3. Biscuits - What is with these? They are what we would call sconnes, and they just dont go with anything...especially KFC, it was just....odd....
4. Dimes - It took me half an hour to fihure out that that was 10 cents...well done me!
5. Tax - I dont know if its just Florida, but why dont you add on Tax before you buy something, thats just confusing....really confusing.
6. Adverts on TV - My god, they come up every 5 minutes, at the most ridiculous of times, like when I watched Everybody loves Raymond, adverts had finished, the opening titles ran, and then more adverts....what the heck?
7. Mcdonalds - Way....Way....WAY too big...I ordered a Large and the fries were bigger than my head...
8. 21 to drink....thats so unfair, its 18 here, so I couldnt have one stinkin' beer.

BUT, over all that, I have to say, I absoloutly Love America, I swam with dolphins (again) went to 3 Disney Parks, both Universal Studios, and Sea World, We played some Mini Golf, went to Dolly Partons Dixie Stampede, and went to Red Lobster under the recomendaion Chris (Red-Hat) gave me.

Things I loved though were...
1. Bacon - God I loved that stuff....YUM
2. The American Accent - I could listen to it all day
3. How clean it is - Very clean, very impressive
4. Everyone was Friendly - Yes....yes they were, and I liked that
5. The Weather - SOOOO warm, I loved it

Next time I go I really want to go Wet 'n' Wild, I never got to go, which is a shame, never mind!

Other news since I've been gone, I'm now in my new house in University, Its great, seriously, great, my own house!! Its creepy, Im actually a responcible person now...well, I try!!

Anyway, I hope I've managed to bring just the TINYEST bit of sunshine into you're lives by coming back. I missed the place

With all these members going off to college, and being online less, and all that stuff, its another members turn to say they wont be here as much either, ME! As of tomorrow, I'll be gone for about a week or two, not sure really. I'll definately be gone for at least week because tomorrow im of on yet another fun holiday too..........

FLORIDA....wooo!

Disney World here I come, and other such tourist locations us brits have to do when were there. So yeah, I'm off there tomorrow, I might pop online sometimes if I find a computer anywhere near by (Which I'm sure I will).

The reason I might not be back the 2nd week is because I'm moving back up to University the day I come back (gonna be a LOOONG day) and my house up there doesnt have the Net yet, we're working on it though. :)

Anyway, so yeah, I'll see you all as soon as I can :)
